Trivia / Red Dwarf Season III "Timeslides"

Go To

  • Acting for Two: Chris Barrie also plays Rimmer's brother, Frank, using the same accent he would for Ace Rimmer.
  • The Cast Showoff: That cool instrumental Kryten is playing air guitar to? Craig Charles wrote it. He also wrote and sang the song that plays in the same episode as Lister arrives at his mansion.
  • Creator Couple: Ruby Wax, who played Blaize Falconberger, is married to director Ed Bye.
  • Deleted Scene:
    • The opening scene of the Cat wanting to play juvenile games with an unwilling and depressed Lister is extended with additional dialogue. Amongst them Cat mentions jousting with wheelchairs, waste-bin helmets, and pool cues; ironically Lister does joust in "Stoke Me a Clipper" as Lister of Smeg.
    • An alternate take of the tension sheet discussion was re-shot to remove Rimmer's "hologram box" because the writers considered it an unsuccessful effect. The box (similar to a glovebox) enables the intangible hologram to operate two blinking mechanical arms inside the box, which Rimmer is using to re-paint his childhood model soldiers and spitfire airplanes.
    • Additional dialogue with Rimmer talking to the rich Lister, his wife, and butler Gilbert. Rimmer lists all the things Lister now has and says that all he used to be happy with was a curry, a beer, and a gory film.
  • Edited for Syndication: In a 2012 repeat, Rimmer's line, "My duty as a complete and utter bastard", was cut.
  • Fake Brit: American Koo Stark plays the very English Lady Sabrina Mulholland-Jjones, daughter of the Duke of Lincoln (though she did, of course, have personal experience of the British aristocracy, having dated Prince Andrew in real life).
  • Posthumous Credit: In what might be the only case ever of this being Played for Laughs, the intro gives us "Tonight's Special Guest Star: Adolf Hitler As Himself" (he appears via archive footage which Lister is inserted into). And yes, he is named in the official cast lists for this episode.
  • Real-Life Relative: Craig Charles' younger brother Emile plays Lister's 17-year-old younger self.
  • Throw It In!: When the suitcase bomb explodes, pay attention to Holly in the background. Hattie Hayridge improvises and ducks out of view of her screen.
  • Uncredited Role: An unknown voice actor provided the voice of Adolf Hitler for the scene in which Hitler is heard fighting with Lister.
  • What Could Have Been:
    • Graham Chapman was originally cast as the newsreader but died before filming started. He was replaced by Ruby Wax.
    • The skiing couple whose picture Lister received by mistake were originally supposed to talk about how they'd received Lister's birthday photos. Craig Charles pointed out that this made no sense, as the couple wouldn't have known about the mix-up when the picture was taken. The lines were cut, but the actors were still included in the end credits.
