• All-Star Cast: Just look at all the names in the description!
• Colbert Bump: The movie shot to the Top 10 on Netflix during the 2019-2020 Coronavirus pandemic.
• The Danza: Donald Sutherland playing Major General Donald "Donnie" McClintock.
• The Other Marty: Donald Sutherland took over from Joe Don Baker because Wolfgang Petersen and Producer Arnold Kopelson wanted the character to have more of an "Oliver North quality" and decided Sutherland could deliver that. Sutherland was not available for filming when production began, but later joined the set, and was able to complete all of his scenes without any delays.
• Uncredited Role: J. T. Walsh is uncredited as the White House Chief of Staff.
• Wag the Director: In his scenes when he's wearing his Army uniform, Colonel Daniels does not wear his Army headgear, even though every Army soldier knows he is required to do so. This was due to Dustin Hoffman's reluctance to wear it, as he didn't like the way he looked on-screen while wearing it.
• What Could Have Been:
  • The role of Sam Daniels was originally intended for Harrison Ford. Denzel Washington was offered the role, but turned it down in favour of Crimson Tide. Mel Gibson and Sylvester Stallone were also considered.
  • Danny Glover was considered to play Brigadier General Billy Ford.
  • The bomb that explodes in the ocean was scripted to explode over the town, vaporizing it. Boss Film actually did the effects sequence showing the destruction, but test screenings forced the filmmakers to re-shoot the end with the town being saved.
• Written By Castmember: Dustin Hoffman and Maya Angelou did uncredited work on the script, but most of their work went unused.
