Trivia / Myst IV: Revelation

Go To

  • B-Team Sequel: As with Myst III, this game was not made by Cyan (although they are credited as a co-producer).
  • Creator's Oddball: For Ubisoft Montreal.
  • Fandom Nod: In his opening narration, Atrus mentions that people believed his sons died when he burned the trap books. This is a nod to the fact that some players of the first game came away with the impression that Atrus had killed his own sons.
  • The Other Darrin: The actors who played Sirrus and Achenar in Revelation look and sound NOTHING like the Miller Brothers other than basic body types. What makes the situation more interesting is that Rand Miller returns to play Atrus.
  • Playing Their Own Twin: Kira Clavell plays twin sisters Moiri and Raeane.
  • What Could Have Been: The game was initially intended to include another set of puzzles in Haven, involving animal tracks and dietary preferences. Technical delays led to these challenges being omitted from play, although clues that were intended to help complete the puzzle can still be found in Achenar's ship and elsewhere in that Age.
    • Also, the game was originally going to be in 3D with an Age called Cascade serving as Atrus' office. Partway through production, Ubisoft took over and completely overhauled the game. This blog post sheds some light on the situation and includes test footage of the 3D version: http://www.unseen64.net/2014/11/26/myst-iv-adventure-beyond-dni-ultraworld-cancelled/.
    • Yeesha's room was going to be an underwater observatory located at the base of a tree and accessed via a slide.
    • Haven was originally called Savahna. The island was going to be made from the skeleton of a gigantic creature.
    • Spire was meant to be an ice world that you explored using a unicycle-like device.
    • Serenia went through many iterations. At first it was called Octave and later Tine Island. The original idea was that the Age was comprised of an abandoned hydroelectric dam that the natives had converted into huts. The goal was to power the dam and get the entire village to rotate but this was deemed too ambitious for the technology available at the time.
    • An early promotional video indicates the game was meant to open with the Stranger receiving an electric shock from Atrus' crystal viewer and being found on the floor of the observatory by Yeesha. Her outfit in the video differs greatly from the one in the game, appearing to be steampunk-inspired.
