• Colbert Bump: A link to the first chapter was retweeted by Tom Cruise in 2013, causing much puzzlement. The original tweet was by Hiroshi Sakurazaka, and it was around the time that Cruise was promoting Edge of Tomorrow, so it seems that whoever was running the account had been trying to link to the original author and simply picked his most recent tweet. At any rate, Weekly Shonen Champion wasted no time in mentioning him on their own Twitter.
• Completely Different Title: Rather than the presumably not very marketable I am..., the English manga is published under the Pun-Based Title My Monster Secret instead.
• The Danza: Sort of, with Youko Hikasa, who plays Youko…'s mother, Touko.
• Playing Against Type: In the anime, Wataru Hatano plays Sakurada, a Perpetually Smiling Nice Guy who talks like a girl.
• What Could Have Been: The author notes several elements that were scrapped or changed, in a Q&A:
  • Akari was initially supposed to remain a background character, serving as a mere teacher.
  • In chapter 31-32 (Asahi and Youko in Genjirou and Touko's house), Shiho and Nagisa were initially planned to go into the house to see how Asahi was doing. The idea was more or less reused in the anime (though the context was different).
  • He had also thought of making Yuka Karen's assistant in the student council, but then decided that Karen's character worked better if she was alone. Yuka was eventually introduced, but much later and in a different role.
  • Most importantly, Asahi and Youko weren't supposed to become a couple before the end, but Masuda decided that delaying their confession any more than that would have been ridiculous, so it became the climax for the first part of the story.
