Trivia / Motu Patlu

Go To

  • Acting for Two: Saurav Chakraborty provides the voice of both Motu and Patlu.
  • Adaptation First: Countries that speak Spanish and French got the English show before the original comic.
  • Adored by the Network: Nickelodeon India adores Motu Patlu to the same extent that the American Nickelodeon adores the sponge. It airs 5 hours on average on weekdays, along with its never-ending list of TV movies, and it gets aggressive merchandising.
  • Completely Different Title:
    • The Chinese title 秃头二人组 roughly translates to The Group of Two Bald-Headed People.
    • One episode is titled "Samosaaaaaaaa". When Wow Kidz subbed and uploaded this episode, the YouTube title was "Motu Ke Samose", but the original title is still present within the video itself.
  • Creator's Favorite: According to this Quora post, Cosmos-Maya's favorite character is Motu, with Inspector Chingum being a runner-up.
  • Fandom Life Cycle:
    • In India, the show is a big hit with a large fanbase (primarily consisting of its target audience of children) and countless episodes, placing it firmly in Stage 5.
    • In the English-speaking world, the show's fandom is no larger than Stage 2. In 2017, Motu Patlu became the subject of a number of memes in the United States, giving the show slightly more recognition and a cult following there; its English fanbase is still small, however.
  • Keep Circulating the Tapes:
    • The majority of the 1980's series can be found online, but there are quite a few episodes that weren't uploaded.
    • Out of the few episodes of the modern series dubbed in English, even fewer have surfaced online.
  • Long-Runners:
    • The overall franchise. It's been around since The '60s and remains popular.
    • The Nickelodeon adaptation celebrated its 10th anniversary on October 16th, 2022.
  • No Dub for You: In the United States, it can only be watched with subtitles, if that.
  • Official Fan-Submitted Content: Some gag subs were created by fans and submitted to Wow Kidz through YouTube's community contributions service. The gag subs completely deviate from the original script and are filled with profanity and memes, but they were still somehow approved by Wow Kidz and displayed on the official channel for children to see. Most of these subtitles were later removed except for "Khazana khazana".
  • Rereleased for Free: Most of the movies and episodes premiere on the pay TV network Nickelodeon India before they later come out for free on YouTube.
  • Schedule Slip: Most of the movies are Rereleased for Free on YouTube not too long after their original airings, but at least one movie, Motu Patlu in Octopus World, wasn't put online for a while, despite it originally airing in 2017. As of 2019, however, it has been uploaded.
  • Unfinished Dub:
    • An English dub of Motu Patlu actually does exist, though only six or seven episodes were dubbed in English out of over three hundred episodes in the original Hindi.
    • Wow Kidz stopped writing English, Spanish, and French subtitles in early 2017, despite the subtitled videos getting millions of views.
