Trivia / Miss Marple (1984)

Go To

  • The Danza: Hawes's first name is never mentioned in the novel The Murder at the Vicarage, but in the adaptation, he's Christopher, the same as the actor who plays him.
  • Fake American: Several but notably Claire Bloom as Marina Gregg in "The Mirror Crack'd From Side to Side" and Sue Lloyd with a hideous attempt at a Deep South American accent in "A Caribbean Mystery".
  • The Other Darrin:
    • Jason Rafiel is played by Frank Gatliff in "Nemesis" and Donald Pleasence in "A Caribbean Mystery" (although the two episodes are set in the reverse order to which they were broadcast).
    • Miss Marple's nephew Raymond West is played by David McAlister in "Sleeping Murder" and Trevor Bowen in "A Caribbean Mystery" and "The Mirror Crack'd from Side to Side".
  • Real Life Writes the Plot: The rights to They Do It With Mirrors, A Caribbean Mystery and The Mirror Crack'd from Side to Side were initially unavailable due to other adaptations. As a consequence, they were adapted out of sequence and became the final three Made-For-TV Movies after the rights reverted in 1988. This puts "They do it with Mirrors" significantly out of place and puts Jason Rafiel's death in "Nemesis" before his introduction in "A Caribbean Mystery".
  • Role Reprise: Gwen Watford played Miss Marple's friend Dolly Bantry in 1984's "The Body In the Library", the first story of the first season. She returned to the role in the show's very last story, the 1992 Made-for-TV Movie "The Mirror Crack'd from Side to Side".
  • Tyop on the Cover: The opening credits for 4:50 From Paddington give the title as 4.50 rather than in the hour:minute format used everywhere else.
  • You Look Familiar: Many years before starring in the BBC series, Joan Hickson played a housekeeper in one of the Margaret Rutherford films, Murder, She Said. Appropriately, while criticizing the Rutherford films, Agatha Christie indicated that an older Hickson would fit her vision of Miss Marple.
