- Billing Displacement: Adrien Brody gets second billing on the poster, even though he's only in one scene. Owen Wilson (the star) is listed last. Of course, Woody Allen tends to list the cast of his movies in alphabetical order by last name (on the posters at least) which explains it.
- Fake American: Brits Tom Hiddleston as F. Scott Fitzgerald and Michael Sheen as Paul Bates.
- Fake Nationality: Adrien Brody (American) as Spanish surrealist painter Salvador Dalí. Also Daniel Lundh (Swedish born French) as Spanish bullfighter Juan Belmonte, Marcial di Fonzo Bo (Argentinian raised French) as Málaga national treasure and cubist painter Pablo Picasso, and Adrian de Van (French) as legendary Spanish filmmaker Luis Buñuel.
- Playing Against Type: Owen Wilson, normally known for playing laid back characters, plays Woody Allen's nebbish persona here. And it works.
- Stunt Casting: Carla Bruni's casting got a substantial amount of press. She plays a tour guide and has less than 5 minutes of screentime.
