• Awesome, Dear Boy: Ben Wheatley signed on to direct because not only was he a massive fan of the first film, but he also wanted to work with Jason Statham.
• Creator's Oddball: Ben Wheatley was an odd choice of director for this big-budget, effects-heavy popcorn film, given that he principally directs dark, small-scale thrillers that he also writes.
• Dueling Works: It was released the same year as two other Megalodon-themed movies The Black Demon and The Asylum’s Megalodon: The Frenzy and also was released the same year as Godzilla Minus One.
• Refitted for Sequel: The opening sequence in the prologue is lifted from the first book's prologue, which was excised from the original film.
