• Actor Allusion: This is the second Cronenberg film in a row in which Robert Pattinson spends most of his screen time inside a limousine - not to mention having sex in one.
• California Doubling: Played straight (like most Cronenberg projects, the bulk of the film was shot in his native Toronto), but also averted (some scenes were actually shot in Hollywood - the first time in his career that Cronenberg has filmed on American soil).
• Saved from Development Hell: Cronenberg and Wagner were ready to start filming in 2007, but it would take another six years before financing could be secured.
