  • Dawson Casting: The film version starring Mary Pickford in the role of 10-year-old Cedric.... she was 28 years old.
  • The Red Stapler: The descriptions of Cedric's adorable velvet-and-lace outfits and long curled ringlets, combined with the excellent illustrations by Reginald Birch, charmed a generation of women into dressing their little boys in a similar fashion. There was a backlash against "Little Lord Fauntleroy"-like outfits for boys a generation later, spearheaded by new fathers who remembered how much they hated these costumes (Lampshaded by the author herself in a later adult novel T. Tembarom). note  The lasting effect of this story is such that it was unacceptable throughout the western world for little boys to have long hair until The '70s. Eighty-five years!

    • A somewhat twisted case appears in the novel "Lillelord" (actually little lord) by Norwegian author Johan Borgen, telling the story of an upper class boy who is groomed to act and look like Cedric. The problem with this boy is that his a Manipulative Bastard of the first degree, getting away with almost anything because of his resemblance with Cedric.
    • In The Man Who Came to Dinner, after Maggie warns Whiteside not to interfere with her and Bert Jefferson, she ends it by saying, "That's my message to you - Big Lord Fauntleroy!"
  • Write What You Know: Burnett was fond of dressing her sons in lace, velvet, and ruffles, and she allowed them to grow their hair long so that she could style it in ringlets. Cedric's outfits in the novel are based on clothes she had really made for her sons. In particular, Cedric strongly resembles Burnett's second son Vivian in both looks and manner.
