Trivia / Kia Stevens

Go To

  • Cast the Expert: Her participation in GLOW might just seem like standard Stunt Casting, but she had extensive acting experience growing up.
  • Creator Breakdown: She made a surprise return to WWE in 2012 for the Royal Rumble, claiming she had already given birth to her baby and named him Jamie. It was later revealed that the baby was stillborn, and she opted to leave WWE because she was not in the right mental state to return in the time they were asking for. In addition to that, it was the latest in a series of deaths in her family that she had not been able to grieve for; she recalls attending her own mother's funeral and then immediately having to get on a plane to do Bound For Glory. As a result, she knew her depression would only increase if she went back on the road.
  • He Also Did: She also trained in mixed martial arts while in Japan, but decided to just stick to pro wrestling. She did win one fight at 'G-Shooto: Wrestle Expo 2006 by TKO but by then was well established as a pro wrestler and not about to switch over.
  • Hostility on the Set:
    • In a shoot interview, when Rhaka Khan's name was mentioned, Kia got very angry and called her out for refusing to pay an aunt of hers.
    • A well-publicised incident in 2010 was her assaulting Bubba The Love Sponge backstage after he made derogatory comments about the victims of a disaster in Haiti.
    • She didn't clarify but in a You-Shoot interview, she put Madison Rayne in the 'Ho Bag'.
    • Reby Sky apparently referred to Kong in a shoot interview, talking about people who never take their problems with Sky to her face. Kong definitely interpreted something Sky said as being about her and their next meeting on the set of TNA Kong ended with Kong dismissed after she escalated the situation and put her hands on Sky.
    • In the same Youshoot mentioned above, she mentioned that she threw a shoe at Scott Steiner at a Waffle House.
  • I Am Not Spock: Often referred to as Awesome Kong even though that's only what she was called in TNA. When she was there, she was referred to just as 'Kong' in interviews out of respect of the two different names she used.
  • Money, Dear Boy: She quite vocally left TNA due to pay disputes. In a shoot interview she said she was denied a pay rise, which she wanted so she could afford a car - and this was around the time TNA were spending money on signing numerous ex-WWE stars. She also said TNA once tried to get out of paying her. And apparently, by the time she'd left, she had just $77 in her bank account and the TNA office were actually withholding pay in the hopes that would keep her quiet.
  • Playing Against Type:
  • Promoted Fangirl: Cited Lita as her inspiration to get into wrestling and Trish as what she took as the evidence she could actually do it. Her first appearance on television before wrestling, Discovery Health Body Challenge, saw her screaming in happiness to meet Chyna.
  • Real Life Writes the Plot: Got written off of TV a month after her WWE debut because she got pregnant.
  • Real Song Theme Tune: (in SHIMMER and ROH): Kurupt and Daz Dillinger's "Who Ride Wit Us".
  • Short-Lived, Big Impact: She only had a month of TV appearances in 2011 following her debut in WWE, no actual matches, simply laying waste to Heel divas, before she announced her pregnancy, and a Royal Rumble appearance in 2012. She was then released a few months later.
  • Throw It In!: The Amazing Kong name actually. In Japan, Aja Kong was advertised for a show but she was unable to make it. As she had only been advertised as "A. Kong", it was a Loophole Abuse for the promoters to deliver what they had been advertising. Amusingly, when Stevens arrived at the arena and was greeted "Hey, Kong", she thought it was a racial taunt at first, not knowing it was her new name.
  • What Could Have Been:
    • She was not actually intending to get hired by WWE. Through pure coincidence, several other female wrestlers had sent in tapes of their matches to get hired, and most of them were matches against her. That's how they became aware of her, and she says that Jim Ross, Stone Cold and Mick Foley convinced Vince to sign her.
    • Jim Ross had pitched angles that would have her working with Vickie Guerrero in an effort to get Amazing Kong into WWE. These did not get to pan out as Ross was no longer part of the booking team or talent relations by the time Kharma debuted.
    • TNA wanted Amazing Kong to bring the NWA World Women's Championship into their company but could not since they left the NWA after getting bought out by Panda energynote . TNA eventually got her but only after she dropped the title to MsChif. Kong might have held it longer (she was just shy of the year mark) and might have lost it by pin fall or submission instead of count out(where the champion usually retains) but TNA did not want her looking weak and the NWA decided to oblige at their own expense, in a business known for petty and spiteful behavior.
    • When Ring Warriors and Pro Wrestling Syndicate were exchanging talent, Amazing Kong and La Rosa Negra were initially teased as opponents rather than partners.
    • Gail Kim said there were talks of Kharma's first WWE match to be against her, as well as the big feud to be Kharma vs Beth Phoenix.
