Trivia / Jefferson Airplane

Go To

  • Creator Couple: Paul Kantner and Grace Slick were in a relationship from 1969-75, a union that produced a daughter, China Kantner (who went on to become an actress and an MTV VJ). Slick and Spencer Dryden were in a relationship before that.
  • Colbert Bump: In 2021 "White Rabbit" was used in the first trailer for The Matrix Resurrections (in a sort of Book Ends moment seeing as the band's first gig was in a nightclub actually called "The Matrix"). In late 2022, WWE began using "White Rabbit" (namely, Grace's isolated vocals) in mysterious, cryptic teasers for a debuting wrestler. These usages lead to the band growing a slight following among wrestling fans, perhaps most notably Gen-Z and Millennial fans who might have otherwise not been familiar with them.
  • Hostility on the Set: With the mix of clashing egos, romantic relationships among band members, and drugs, a lot of their history reads like a prototype for Fleetwood Mac.
  • The Pete Best: Bob Harvey (the original bassist), and Jerry Peloquin (the original drummer). Also Signe Toly Anderson, the original female lead vocalist, and Skip Spence, the second drummer, who played on the band's debut album, Jefferson Airplane Takes Off, and left afterwards. Spence went on to be a founding member of Moby Grape.
  • Similarly Named Works: "Somebody to Love" is also the name of songs by Queen, Justin Bieber, and OneRepublic, among others.
