• In Memoriam: The film is dedicated to Tom Clancy, who passed away on October 1, 2013.
• Release Date Change: The movie was originally supposed to be released on Christmas 2013, but was pushed back to January 17, 2014 to give the release date to The Wolf of Wall Street.
• Stillborn Franchise: This film's poor performance killed plans for a new Jack Ryan film series. The character was rebooted, yet again, in Jack Ryan, a TV series.
• What Could Have Been: Kate Beckinsale, Jessica Biel, Felicity Jones and Evangeline Lilly were considered for Cathy Ryan.
