Novels:

  • Outlived Its Creator - After Tom's death, Mark Greaney wrote Support and Defend, Full Force and Effect, Commander in Chief, and True Faith and Allegiance, while Grant Blackwood wrote Under Fire and Duty and Honor, Mike Maden wrote Point of Contact and Line of Sight, and Marc Cameron wrote Power and Empire and Oath of Office.
  • Multiple-Choice Past: An odd example. Early works in the series didn’t try to rewrite world history, but starting with Clear And Present Danger, the series developed its own timeline of US presidents and world-shaking events. Later books in the series were clearly set in this timeline - while occasionally referencing real life presidents like Bush and Reagan, or events like the Iraq War, that could not have happened in the Ryanverse world as described. Even interquel books like Red Rabbit suffered heavily from timeline and story inconsistency.
  • Science Marches On: Several books set 20 Minutes into the Future make use of proposed weapons systems that never went into production, or never existed in the first place.

Films

2018 Amazon series:

  • California Doubling: Lots of the series is filmed on location, but some scenes set in Washington, D.C. were actually shot in Montreal.
  • Fake American: Cathy Mueller is played by Abbie Cornish (Australian).
    • Marcus Bishop is played by Jovan Adepo (British).
  • Fake Nationality: Ali Suliman (Lebanese-French) as Mousa Bin Suleiman is an Arab-Israeli. Dina Shihabi (Syrian) as Hanin Ali is Saudi-American. Haaz Sleiman (Lebanese-French) as Ali Suleiman is a Lebanese-American.
  • Playing Against Type: John Krasinski is primarily known for comedic roles rather than drama or action.
  • Posthumous Credit: Despite having passed away before the series was even conceived, Tom Clancy is listed as an executive producer.
  • No Stunt Double: John Krasinski filmed much of his fight with assassin Max Schenkel in Season 2, because many shots required close ups of his face during the action.
  • Screwed by the Lawyers: The decision to go ahead with a John Clark movie in a separate continuity meant that the character is unavailable for this series. Instead, Ding Chavez is introduced in Season 4 without his mentor.
  • Throw It In!: According to John Krasinski, he wasn't supposed to perform the stunt where he gets thrown out of a helicopter in Season 3. In fact it had already been shot with a stunt double. However, on the way to shooting some inserts for the sequence, Kevin Kent, a former Navy SEAL and the show's military advisor, goaded John into doing it himself right then and there. The camera operator managed to catch the fall perfectly before pulling back to show Kent flashing the shaka.
