Trivia / Hotel Transylvania 3: Summer Vacation

Go To

  • Descended Creator: Blobby is voiced by co-writer/director Genndy Tartakovsky.
  • Market-Based Title: Known as "Hotel Transylvania: A Monster Vacation'' in some southern hemisphere countries like Australia, where its release didn't coincide with summer vacation.
  • The Other Darrin:
    • Blobby is voiced by Genndy Tartakovsky rather than Bobby Solomon.
    • In the European French dub, Henri Guybet replaced the late Michel Galabru as Vlad.
  • Real-Life Relative: Adam Sandler as Dracula and Sadie as Winnie are also joined by younger daughter Sunny as Sunny (the werewolves' newborn second daughter).
  • Refitted for Sequel: One idea in Hotel Transylvania that was dropped pertained to Johnny being a descendant of Van Helsing, which would have created more conflict between Dracula and Johnny. This movie finally properly introduces the Van Helsing family into the setting, but makes the descendant Dracula's Love Interest instead.
  • What Could Have Been:
    • Genndy Tartakovsky and Michelle Murdocca almost didn't return for the film, due to working on Can You Imagine? (which was later scrapped), and Genndy not being interested in doing a sequel. After Samurai Jack's fifth season, and a particularly bad family vacation, however, Genndy returned along with Michelle.
    • Early concept art shows a different design for Ericka, in which she had medium-length, curly black hair... in fact she was initially meant to strongly resemble Martha from the original film. This was changed due to the animators feeling she needed to look more like her own person.
    • Van Helsing was originally going to follow Ericka around as a ghost, having died decades ago and taken to haunting his descendants.
  • Write What You Know: After finishing Samurai Jack's fifth and final season, Genndy Tartakovsky went on a particularly "miserable" family vacation, and used that (along with the National Lampoon's Vacation films) as inspiration for the setting and plot of this film.
