• The Other Darrin: Keegan-Michael Key has replaced Cee Lo Green as Murray (presumably due to the latter's 2014 rape controversy).
• Promoted Fanboy: Genndy Tartakovsky is a huge fan of Mel Brooks and said that directing him was a daunting task.
• Refitted for Sequel: The scene where Drac discovers Mavis is pregnant was originally planned for the first movie as a flashback with Drac and his wife Martha.
• What Could Have Been:
  • In the novelization and early scripts, when Vlad learns that both humans and monsters reside in the hotel, he calls forth Bela and his cronies to destroy the place. It was only when Bela and his cronies go out of control and start attacking both humans and monsters and said humans and monsters start working together to fight Bela and his cronies and Jonathan helping pull Vlad out of rubble that he does a Heel–Face Turn.
  • Also, the novelization and a deleted scene had Dracula and Frank go visit Vlad and tell him about the Dennis situation rather than Mavis inviting him. It would later reveal that in Dracula's childhood, Vlad teared apart his beloved pet Raccoon LuLu.
  • Dennis' hair was originally going to be a lot larger. However, the animators had trouble with animating all the hair, and found it to look awkward when Dennis was being hugged or held by people.
  • In some concept arts, Dennis' shirt originally had the number 7 before it was changed to 4.
