• All-Star Cast:
  • The Japanese voice cast of both series are full of many well known voice actors, some of them would end being future star in later series, at least in the 1999 series.
  • The Latin American Spanish dub of the 1999 series could give the 2018 series a run for its money regarding the Japanese cast, as it reunites many of the most well-known young (at the time) and veteran voice actors from the Mexican voice acting industry, including names as Luis Daniel Ramírez, José Gilberto Vilchis, Gerardo Reyero, Rocío Garcel, etc.
• Playing Against Type: Two cases of this in the Latin American Spanish dub:
  • Dakki, the Big Bad of the series, is voiced by Mayra Arellano, a voice actress previously known for voicing sweet, cute and kind girls, like Kasumi Tendo, for a most notable example. Not only Dakki is everything Kasumi is not, or anything that Arellano has voiced before, she really seems to enjoy voicing her in all her hammy glory.
  • Gerardo Reyero voiced Ki Sho, a very old man, a departure on voicing young or middle-aged men, like Tuxedo Mask or Stu Pickles, or nasty psychos like Frieza.
• Throw It In!: At least one character was "imported" from an unrelated video game that the mangaka was working on because he liked the design so much.
• What Could Have Been: An omake chapter showed a version of Hoshin Engi with completely different designs and characterizations—Taikobo as a female Cloudcuckoolander whose inept bumbling end up causing the atrocities attributed to Dakki, for example.
