Trivia / Hard to Be a God

  • The title "Hard to Be a God" was originally reserved for the short story "Poor Cruel Folk" that dealt with the same matter, albeit with a little less grim touch. In the short story, it was more literal, since the Insufficiently Advanced Aliens communicated with the Earthlings via a statue of a god.
  • Executive Meddling: Arata was absent from early draft, only added because censor demanded "to show the Revolutionary Movement".
  • Troubled Production: The 2014 film by Aleksei German was years into production, stuck in Development Hell, then saved from it and then the director died during editing, with the final version overseen by his wife and son.
