Trivia / Gundam Vs Series

Go To

  • Acting for Two: Takehito Koyasu, who in Next Plus voices Zechs/Milliardo, Gym, and Flaga. If Flaga is partnered with any of the other three, he delivers a lampshade that leans on the fourth wall:
"Well, it looks like I'm...I mean, we're gonna be pretty busy."
  • Actor Allusion: In Full Boost, one of Leos' battle quotes is "I'll shatter that illusion of yours!"; ironically, his character was originally on the receiving end of that Catchphrase.
  • Bad Export for You: Extreme VS Force and Maxi Boost ON are digital-only in the West, as opposed to the Physical and Digital options Japan and Asia got (on top of a Premium G Sound edition on both countries for Maxi Boost ON), to the frustration of US and EU players who would want their copies physical (unless they import the Japanese or Asian physical ones).
  • Defictionalization: The Hot Scramble Gundam, being an actual mobile suit instead of a Gunpla and the first one to start it off.
    • Same goes for Build Strike in VERSUS 2017, as well as Try Burning, Amazing Zaku, Lightning Gundam Full Burnern, and other Build Fighter competitors for Extreme Vs. Maxiboost ON (Playstation 4) and Extreme Vs. 2.
  • Development Hell:
    • It took a long time for Gundam AGE to finally make it into the series. Although Gundam 00 and Unicorn were quickly represented in the Gundam Vs. Gundam NEXT series, AGE's represenative (AGE-1) was originally a planned DLC unit for the Playstation 3 version of Extreme VS., but given how the franchise was viewed by the fanbase as a Franchise Killer, AGE-1 and the series in general had to wait until Maxi Boost before they could finally make their debut, 2 years after the series ended.
    • Gundam Build Fighters' inclusion in the series has been a turbulent ride as well. When Maxi Boost was announced, there was an image showing all the playable characters — which included Reiji. However, as time went on and more units were added, none of them were from Build Fighters or its sequel Build Fighters Try and no explanation was ever given. It wasn't until three years later that Build Fighters made it in...but rather than the Build Strike, the Build Burning, or anything else that fans might have wanted, they added the Hot Scramble Gundam, which Bandai Namco used to celebrate the 30th anniversary of Gundam video games. If it weren't for the fact that it's piloted by Tatsuya Yuki/Meijin Kawaguchi III, some might not even have pegged it as a Build Fighters unit at all. It wouldn't be until Gundam Versus that the Build Strike Full Package would make it in as a playable unit, which later got into Maxi Boost ON and Extreme VS 2 alongside the Zaku Amazing.
  • Dummied Out: In Gundam vs Gundam NEXT Plus, hacking can be used to gain access to normally unplayable machines like the bosses or the MS added for Next Plus Mode. The Next Plus mecha are incomplete, with maybe one or two attacks...with a couple of exceptions. Buster, Blitz, and Lunamaria's ZAKU were mostly copied over from Alliance vs. ZAFT, while Sandrock Kai was included for a stage where you fight the entire Wing Team. Hacking these four as playables shows that they're already mostly complete, only really lacking voice clipsnote , assists and balanced stats.
  • Fandom Nod: In Extreme Vs, the SEED intro video shows the Strike Gundam Dual Wielding beam rifles, a nod to the fact that it sometimes did this in the original anime during Off-Model moments (which eventually became Memetic Mutation).
  • No Export for You: AEUG vs Titans and everything after Gundam vs Zeta Gundam, most likely due to the declining popularity of Gundam overseas, combined with bad critical reception of the games after Federation vs Zeon. Additionally, Gundam vs Zeta Gundam wasn't released in Europe for unknown reasons, despite Federation vs Zeon having been released there.
    • However, Extreme Vs. was ported to PlayStation 3, so at least gamers outside of Japan can simply import and play without dealing with Region Coding. Same with the PlayStation 3 port of Full Boost, but the Online Mode is played straight if you only have a US/EU account.
      • Bandai Namco has explained their hesitancy to bring Extreme Vs. overseas due to the fact that arena fighters aren't very popular in the West. Then they made the game Rise of the Incarnates based off of the Gundam Vs. engine and suggested that if it performed well enough, they might consider bringing Full Boost or Maxi Boost to America. The problem there is that Incarnates has gotten a poor reception, especially from Gundam Vs. fans, due to sluggish gameplay and generic "edgy" American comic-style character designs.
    • Finally averted starting in 2016 with the Western release of the Vita spin-off Extreme Vs. FORCE., though its contents are different from the norm. A year later saw the release of the PS4 title Gundam Versus, first released in Asia with English subtitles, as is common with Gundam games as of late, so importers don't have to deal with too much of a hassle of reading Japanese, then released in the US and Europe Sept. 29. The glass ceiling was once more shattered seemingly forever with the July 30th 2020 worldwide release of Maxi Boost ON for PS4.
  • What Could Have Been: The Excuse Plot of Gundam vs. Gundam says that in 2032, Vs. Games exist for every ''Gundam'' series. The intro for NEXT Plus actually names all the games which will assuredly never be made, including Federation vs. Zeon II, Federation vs. Zeon III, Federation vs. Delaz Fleet, AEUG vs. Neo-Zeon, Londo Bell vs. Neo-Zeon, Federation vs. Crossbone Vanguard, League Militaire vs. Zanscare, Shuffle Alliance vs. Devil Gundam Corps, OZ vs. White Fang, Space Revolutionary Army vs. New United Nations Earth, and Militia vs. Dianna Counter.
    • Datamining from Full Boost revealed images of a number of units planned to be in the game, like the AGE-1, the RX-78-2 Gundam with the G-Fighter and the original unarmored ZZ Gundam. All of these were later added to Maxi Boost, except for the Striker Custom from the manga Gundam Katana, which vanished without a trace.
