Trivia / Garten of Banban

Go To

  • Approval of God: The Euphoric Brothers actually voiced their approval of fan-made Garten of Banban: Reincarnated; however, they asked for the original game's logo to be removed to prevent confusion of it being an official product. UniqueGeese, the fangame's developer, complied without any hard feelings.
  • Descended Creator: Banban is voiced by Ghepo and Stinger Flynn is voiced by Faris.
  • Dummied Out: Jumbo Josh was planned to be one of the characters that Sir Dadadoo mind controls due to an unused model that shares the same greyed-out color with purple eyes and mouth as the rest of the characters he controls, but this model is unused out of bounds in the "sixth" game.
  • Follow the Leader:
    • Banban itself takes heavy influence from Poppy Playtime (which was also accused of being derivative), as the player searches for someone in the empty remains of a place once used for children that is now overrun with insane monsters.
    • Garten of Banban has made a name for itself and become incredibly popular, many games have directly taken inspiration from it. These include Cookie Man Theatre and Maze of Bouncy Bear, in addition to parodies like Garden of Banan as well as countless fangames and bootlegs. At one point, even theMeatly made his own parody game.
  • Missing Trailer Scene: Occasionally, the trailer footage from various chapters differs slightly from that of the actual games.
    • In the first game's trailer, Opila is absent when the playroom she is found in is lit up (although the player is still shown needing to collect eggs for her), and she is shown trying to follow her set path to the player near the end of the game... while the player is on the opposite side of the pit from her (which is only possible in-game via hacking). In the case of the latter, however, the trailer's final shot still portrays her accurately chasing the player along the wooden platform over the pit, suggesting the earlier shot was to build tension toward the final shot.
    • The second game's official trailer has a note saying "Behind You :)" read at one point in the work area, which appears to be an earlier version of the note that is read shortly before Banban ambushes the player (which has more words on it in the final version).
    • The third game's official trailer features the shot of Stinger Flynn rising from the darkness near the end of the game, but with Opila Bird and Tarta Bird absent from the shot.
    • A few scenes from the trailer for the fourth game differ slightly from their depictions in the actual game, or are of footage that is not actually in the game to begin with.
      • The scene where the player goes to the kingdom with Sheriff Toadster for the first time shows Toadster running towards the gate to the kingdom, rather than walking. He only uses his running animation much later on when he is escaping from the aftermath of Queen Bouncelia being forced to laugh by Bittergiggle. The stitches on his back are also absent from his model in the trailer.
      • The room containing the restrained Stinger Flynn has light in it, although the lights above him are off. In the game, the room is completely pitch black until the player turns on the lights, revealing the jellyfish.
      • Opila Bird appears briefly, but the shot of her head and neck in her cell peeks out from below the platform she is standing on in her cell in the game. Tarta Bird (who is asleep) is actually the one standing where Opila is seen in the trailer.
      • At one point, Sheriff Toadster and "Little Beak" (the Opila Chick) are shown following the player along the platform in the room where Jumbo Josh is captured during the path to get the second elevator part. In actuality, Banban (carrying Mr. Kabob Man) is the one who accompanies the player there, as Toadster and "Little Beak" do not actually accompany the player when collecting the other elevator parts after the first one.
      • The giant glowing mushrooms in the Kingdom were originally blue, but are colored green in the final game.
  • Outdated by Canon:
    • Fanfics of the monsters being former humans gets completely outdated by the actual canon and even GameToons videos got the same non-canon origin, as the actual origins of the monsters are that they are not former humans, but are artificial beings born with unique material and human organs and only think that they are normal humans due to genetic memories.
    • Some characters were given fan names before their names were actually revealed. In particular Buggy Huggy's videos called Slow Seline "Zephyr Snail", Zolphius as "Mister X" and Queen Bouncelia as "Fairy Ururoo". Slow Seline does appear later in one of their videos making this a potential case of unintentional Expy Coexistence.
  • Promoted Fanboy:
    • The channel Rockit Music made several Garten of Banban rap songs before being hired by the Euphoric brothers to officially make one for the 3rd game, which plays during the car sequence.
    • The youtubers Thinknoodles and Caylus made multiple videos reacting to Garten of Banban content and got to voice clones of Bittergiggles in Banban 4.
  • Refitted for Sequel: Opila Bird was originally planned to be blue, and the blue model can be seen by hacking the 2nd game. This is referenced with one of her chicks in the second chapter being blue, and the blue Opila Bird model was later used for Tarta Bird in Chapter 3.
  • Science Marches On: Documents about Queen Bouncelia found in Chapter 4 list a genetic donor as Macropus rufus, referring to the red kangaroo. Later studies indicate it is actually part of the genus Osphranter, with the binomial name now being Osphranter rufus.
  • What Could Have Been:
    • Stinger Flynn was going to be the main threat in the first game, but the brothers decided to change it to Opila Bird, with Stinger Flynn not making his physical debut until Chapter 3.
    • The opening cutscene of Chapter 3 was made at a point when Queen Bouncelia's name was originally listed on the wall as "Queen Leapcelia".
    • Sheriff Toadster originally had white eyes as seen in the logo for Chapter 4. These were turned yellow in his finalized model.
    • In 2024, the Euphoric Brothers would start a new series of videos discussing the secrets and past ideas of the game, known as "Banban Chronicles", narrated by Ty Coker (the voice of Bittergiggle). The first episode focuses on Banban himself.
      • Banban was originally named "Floopa" (as referenced in various old file names), with the game being titled Floopa & Friends, then "Croopa", the game subsequently being retitled Garten of Croopa (as confirmed via a changelog showing the name change), before he was finally given his current name of Banban, and the game became Garten of Banban. He was also the third character to be designed.
      • The first game was originally envisioned to feature Banban (ironically absent from his own game in the final version) as the primary threat, who would stalk the player throughout the game (peaking out occasionally, similar to what Opila does in the final version). He was then replaced by Stinger Flynn, who was also replaced in the final version by Opila.
      • The original draft that featured Banban also took place in a much smaller kindergarten ... in the first half of the game. Going down the elevator, contrary to all later games, would not be the end of the chapter, with the elevator descending safely to the ground without Jumbo Josh present to drag it down, and the player would start exploring the underground facility in the second half of the chapter where Banban would continue to stalk the player. The room the elevator was meant to go down to being left in, but obscured by darkness and solely visible through hacking to fly around the map and disable the lighting, is a remnant of this idea that would ultimately be implemented in the second game, the brothers making the change due to it being a good cliffhanger.
      • Banban had two cut voice lines. The first, for the second game, is "Please, I need to know if you can hear me." if the player took too long to wave their drone remote at the security cameras (at a point when Banban posed as a trapped security guard), which was cut for having too many factors at play for the voice line to work effectively. The second, for the sixth game, is "What even are these things?", which Banban was meant to say shortly after the two implemented voice lines that played in the courtyard when releasing a Naughty One and seeing Sir Dadadoo for the first time, but was cut simply because the brothers forgot to implement it.
      • Banban's original model, created on October 4th, 2022, resembled the final version with slightly older texturing. It was used as a placeholder for the first game's desktop icon and was featured in an official screenshot of the second game that showed a chase scene featuring Banban cut very early in the game's development. Banban would also have a guitar, ultimately only shown in a chalk drawing featured in the third game.
      • Banban would also draw a message to the player telling them to "TURN BACK" in bright red. Since Opila's egg hunt puzzle would not have been present at that point in development, a different puzzle involving scissors was planned instead.
  • Why Fandom Can't Have Nice Things: Following harassment over their games, The Euphoric Brothers announced they would be leaving Twitter, as it had gotten to the point that they genuinely feared for their and their family's safety.
