- Beam Me Up, Scotty!: While Galtar's weapon is called "the golden lance", the fact that it is rarely used as what we usually consider a lance, has led to plenty of this and Cowboy BeBop at His Computer over the years.
- Follow the Leader:
- On the practical Hanna-Barbera note, this show follows the lead from Sister studio's Thundarr the Barbarian, but while Thundarr owed a bit to Conan the Barbarian, Galtar owes some of his pieces to John Carter of Mars with the whole strong hero allying with a princess, who has her own rival "princess", etc. Hanna Barbera would do two more series similar to these two in Wildfire and The Pirates of Dark Water.
- On the outside, Galtar seems to be following slightly from He-Man, who funnily enough followed off earlier Hanna Barbera character Mighty Mightor.
- No Celebrities Were Harmed: Tormack bears an uncanny resemblance to Christopher Lee, and his voice actor Brock Peters sounds like he added a bit of an English accent to his formidably deep, baritone voice to evoke Lee's own deep, intimidating vocals.
