Trivia / Football Manager

  • Cash-Cow Franchise: Including the pre-split Championship Managers, the series has been running since 1992.
  • Doing It for the Art: Researchers who help put together the enormous database generally do it on a volunteer basis.
  • No Export for You:
    • Up to Football Manager 2018, the series wasn't available for sale in Germany and Austria as EA Sports had exclusive rights for football games there (it could still be ordered from other countries or redeemed after purchasing a key in an online shop, however). In 2017, Sports Interactive bought the official Bundesliga license, averting this trope in Germany, but it would only take effect in the following game.
    • Starting from Football Manager 2017, the game is not available in Brazil, not even through digital stores. One of the possible reasons is that by Brazilian law, the image rights for the players must be negotiated by each player individually, although some other Football games (such as FIFA and PES) circumvent this by having players with generic names, 1C instead just prevented any sales to Brazil. Despite this, the game is still available in Brazilian Portuguese, rather than replacing it with the European dialect instead.
    • While the game was always available for Japanese players, it was until the 2024 edition that the game will be translated to Japanese without the need to download an additional patch. This is especially relevant, since the game is published by a Japanese company, but it took years to implement Japanese into the game, as well as including the J.League, Japan's top soccer league, into the game.
  • Re Released For Free: Championship Manager 01/02 was made freeware in December 2008, and partly as a result, it remains arguably the most popular instalment in the franchise despite being twenty years old.
