Trivia / Emma Blackery

Go To

  • Creator Backlash: She has disowned both of her breakout hits: her hit as a YouTuber (her Google+ song) and as a musician ("The Promise").
    • She has publicly stated how she dislikes the fact that the Google+ song is the one many think of when they think of her music, and due to fans constantly begging for her to play the song and ignoring the serious music she puts out, she hasn't been allowed to outgrow it. In her words, "I don't regret it...I just sort of loathe it."
    • She also didn't play "The Promise" for a long time starting from when she supported Busted, due to feeling that even though she'd improved with every new release, fans were still clamouring for a song she wrote in her late teens and didn't think was that special. She openly made fun of it in her "Roast Yourself" rap, and for years mentioned her dislike for it along with the reasons why every time the subject came up. She's since softened on it, due to talking to other artists with similar problems and realising she shouldn't hate the fact fans love one of her works.
    • She did a "dating rap" when she was 19 that she's not exactly proud of, and eventually parodied it after reaching 1 million subscribers.
    • In 2024, she made a video called "My Top 5 Regrets as a YouTuber" in which she mentioned regretting having multiple channels, putting her younger siblings in videos (since they were too young to consent), getting involved in online drama, being rude to fans, taking things too personally, etc.
  • Creator Breakdown: Reportedly suffered severe disillusionment/burnout with her musical career after releasing the Perfect EP, not thinking that she could make any music that didn't all sound the same, and convincing herself that she was no good at music and only good at YouTube. After her manager dragged her to a Twenty One Pilots concert, she found that the show opened her eyes entirely and got her interested in music again.
  • Promoted Fanboy: In 2003 (when she was 12), Emma was inspired to badger her dad into buying her an electric guitar after first hearing Busted, and dreamed about one day playing with her heroes. Although Busted broke up in 2005, they reformed with their original lineup ten years later, and in April 2016, Emma joined the band as a support act on their 2016 reunion tour — appropriately called the Pigs Can Fly Tour.
  • Why Fandom Can't Have Nice Things: Emma has confirmed that there will be no more "Demma" videos, as the attention from fans who were eager to incessantly ship them and only came to Emma's channel because they saw it as Dan's second channel "ruined" the focus of the videos in the first place. It eventually became enough to make Emma pull the plug on the public aspect of their friendship and keep it strictly offline, where it is alive and well.
