  • Acting for Two: Notably averted in the Korean dub, with Chii and Freya having different voice actresses. Played straight with all the other dubs which have the same voice actresses for both.
  • Crossdressing Voices: Minoru is almost always voiced by women, with the notable exception of the Spanish dub, where a guy voices him.
  • The Danza:
    • Ueda is voiced by Yuji Ueda.
    • In the Korean dub, Takako has the same Korean name as her voice actress.
  • Defictionalization: The first two books in the City with No People series that Chi reads were published in a set along with a read-along CD.
  • Playing Against Type:
    • Crispin Freeman, normally playing serious and dangerous badasses, both good and bad guys, plays the comedic, perverted and inept everyman, Hideki.
    • Much like Crispin Freeman, Steve Blum usually voices badasses and villains. Here he plays Nice Guy Mr. Ueda.
  • Referenced by...:
    • "ID1" by Porter Robinson is a remix/uses samples of "Let Me Be With You", the anime's opening theme.
    • Mod The Sims, a Downloadable Content site for fans of The Sims, has one of its download manager bots named Chii. The site's Chii bot also used to perform various functions in the chat room, such as "gets you coffee" when the command "!coffee" was typed.
    • One item sold on Gaia Online to customize a user's avatar is the Robot Ears, which look almost exactly like Chi's Unusual Ears.
  • Studio Hop:
    • The manga series was originally printed by Tokyopop, and has since been re-released by Dark Horse Manga in two omnibus books.
    • The Japanese home media rights are currently owned by NBCUniversal thanks to their buyout of Pioneer LDC/Geneon in 2008.
    • In North America, the distribution rights were handled by Pioneer Entertainment. It has since been transferred over to Funimation.
