  • Approval of God: In a 2020 interview, Oli Sykes stated that after he issued a run of Metal Gear-inspired designs in the early days of his clothing company Drop Dead Clothing, being a fan of the games, an animator from Metal Gear Solid reportedly got in touch with him since the designs weren't licensed. However, she told Oli that she was a fan of his band and his brand, and showed his work to Yoji Shinkawa, the lead character and mecha designer for Metal Gear. Although Oli anticipated a lawsuit, Shinkawa loved what he'd done so much that he received a hand-drawn picture of Solid Snake that was signed by Shinkawa.
  • Creator Backlash: The band are not very proud of their debut album Count Your Blessings, which is in part why they shifted their musical style from deathcore to metalcore for their follow-up Suicide Season.
  • Creator Breakdown: Oli went through this during the Sempiternal to amo era, due to his drug addictions and the divorce of his wife.
  • Dye Hard: All of the members except Jona Weinhofen have had their hair dyed jet black at one point or another. Oli's look for amo is bleach blonde.
  • Follow the Leader: While the band themselves have been accused of this, they also have their share of imitators, being one of the first bands to bridge the gap between floppy-haired metalcore and the Darker and Edgier deathcore scene.
    • This definitely started happening to them when Sempiternal came out, after which a bunch of metalcore bands started to mix their sound with electronic music.
  • Newbie Boom: They are a case of this for metalcore, essentially providing the breakdown-loving Emo Teen crowd that would go on to fuel the entire second wave of the genre (especially in the UK, where metalcore never made a large impact to begin with).
  • Promoted Fanboy: Before the band got the opportunity to collaborate with Hideo Kojima, creating the song "Ludens" for his game Death Stranding, they were fans of his games. They named a song of theirs after the main setting of Metal Gear Solid ("Shadow Moses"), and also contained references to the game in the song as well as a sample of the game's song "The Best Is Yet to Come". Oli additionally credited Metal Gear Solid for making him appreciate video games as an art form, and printed a run of clothes with Metal Gear-inspired designs through his clothing company.
  • Sleeper Hit: An almost exaggerated example with "Can You Feel My Heart". The song was released in 2013 as part of their album Sempiternal, but only in early 2021, 8 years after the release of the song, did it become popular after becoming a viral meme on TikTok.
  • What Could Have Been: When "¿" was released, not only did it confirm that the band had actually collaborated with Halsey, but that she had recorded vocals for "In the Dark"... which were never used for some reason.
