Trivia / Batman & Mr. Freeze: SubZero

Go To

  • Creator Backlash: Bruce Timm was not happy with the decision to bring Nora back to life, believing that it diminished the tragedy of Mr. Freeze.
The one story point that always kind of sticks in my craw is that they brought Mr. Freeze's wife back to life. That's something that I never would have done, because in my head, she was dead. She wasn't just like, preserved and on ice... she was dead! So to me bringing her back to life, even though they did it for poignant reasons...it kind of made sense in the story they were telling, but it was — well, that's kind of like Mr. Freeze's whole thing, is that his wife is dead. He froze emotionally because of it and everything. Well, now, if she's back to life, it's like "Well, now what is he?" So that was weird.
  • Missing Trailer Scene: In a unique application of this trope, the commercials for this movie consisted entirely of scenes from Mr. Freeze's previous appearances on Batman: The Animated Series.
  • The Other Darrin:
    • Melissa Gilbert was replaced by Mary Kay Bergman as the voice of Barbara Gordon. Tara Strong would replace her when Batman: The Animated Series became The New Batman Adventures.
    • The Brazilian dub of the movie was handled in São Paulo instead of Rio de Janeiro like the series:
      • Sérgio Moreno as Batman instead of either Márcio Seixas (TAS) or Maurício Berger (TNBA).
      • Carlos Campanile as Mr. Freeze instead of either Miguel Rosenberg, Nilton Valério (TAS) or Mário Cardoso (TNBA)
      • Orlando Viggiani as Robin instead of Alexandre Moreno
      • Angélica Santos as Batgirl instead of Angela Bonatti
      • César Leitão as Alfred instead of Ayrton Cardoso
      • Carlos Eduardo "Cadu" Amorim as Commisioner Gordon instead of either Isaac Bardavid, Roberto Macedo (TAS) or Orlando Drummond (TNBA)
      • Wellington Lima as Harvey Bullock instead of either José Santa Cruz (TAS and one episode of TNBA), André Bellisar or Samir Murad (TNBA)
      • Zodja Pereira as Veronica Vreeland instead of either Nádia Carvalho or Silvia Goiabeira
      • Fernanda Bock as Summer Gleason instead of Marisa Leal
      • Rosely Gonçalves as Renee Montoya instead of Isis Koschdoski (TAS) or Carla Pompilio (TNBA)
  • Out of Order: The film was released in the middle of The New Batman Adventures, but takes place before or during the Time Skip and uses the original art style. It was originally meant to be released before The New Batman Adventures in mid-1997 as a tie-in to Batman & Robin (which also features Mr. Freeze), but that film's overwhelmingly negative reception caused the studio to delay SubZero's release by almost a year.
  • The Shelf of Movie Languishment: The film was meant to be released in 1997 to be a pseudo-tie-in with Batman & Robin, but due to scathing reviews of the live-action film, it was delayed after completion to March 17, 1998.
  • Shrug of God: Is this film set before or after Batman finds out Barbara is Batgirl? It was constructed so as not to contradict either possible answer. It's clearly set before Robin did, given the flashback in "Old Wounds" shows Dick quitting the same night he learned it.
