Trivia for the TV Series Action:

  • Acclaimed Flop: Highly respected by critics and the few audience members that watched it, it was simply far too explicit for 1990s basic cable. Because of the content issues and very low ratings, led to Fox canning the show 3 episodes prior to the shows finale.
  • Genre-Killer: What Showgirls did to the NC-17 rating this did for TV-MA shows on Basic Cable. It would take until 2013 for Fox to air something with that rating with High School U.S.A., and that shows failure killed any chance of it happening again for the foreseeable future.
  • Playing Against Type: R. Lee Ermey had absolute ball playing Titus Scroad, a drug-addled, reclusive perfectionist of a director who comes out of retirement to direct "Beverly Hills Gun Club". Amusingly, while Scroad's filmography is mostly modeled on Francis Ford Coppola, his personality and appearance are based on Stanley Kubrick, who gave Ermey his big break in Hollywood (and had remained a close friend of his in real life).
