  • The aftermath of Justin's betrayal and his confrontation with Bill. Watching a decades-long friendship disintegrate right in front of our eyes is absolutely heartbreaking, especially since Bill's betrayed emotions are palpable and Justin clearly regrets what he did. By the end, both men are openly crying, and Bill outright says that Justin is dead to him.
  • Finn's entire plotline that started during Spring and presumably ended during Summer 2022; after seeing Steffy start a family with him, it was gut-wrenching for many to witness him shot and supposedly killed...only for it to be revealed months later that Finn was being held hostage by Sheila (despite that she tried to make it seem otherwise), left to deal with the fact that everyone thinks he dead and that his wife, Steffy, is grieving over him. Even after finally breaking free, Steffy still will never be the same after the heartache she went through.
  • Ridge's harsh breakup with Brooke in Aspen...no explanation, just nothing but glares and anger, which left Brooke in tears as she almost turned to alcoholism to drown her sorrows later down the line.
  • The fact that Douglas has to live with the fact that his father isn't the good dad he thought he was; aside from having what was supposed to be a harmless voice modification app taken away from it, he's put in the middle of Thomas' schemes and was thrown into depression knowing what his father did and the harm he caused grandfather and grandmother, Ridge and Brooke respectively.
  • Sheila's charges being entirely dropped after everything Steffy and Finn went through in 2022 thanks to Bill's blackmail and rigging of the hearing. It was slap in the face for both the couple and everyone who genuinely thought Bill had come to his senses and turned Sheila in.
    • It was even more painful for Bill, who had to alienate everyone who ever mattered to him in his life to be able to gain Sheila's trust so that he could gather more charges to be pressed against her. Keep in mind, he really was still just as outraged about Sheila's attempted murder against Steffy and Finn, but he knew she wouldn't be in prison for long if only those charges were brought against her. Even if it meant losing all his family, he was willing to bring Sheila to justice.
  • Douglas being forced into making his own choice in living with either Thomas Forrester or with Hope Logan and her husband...and turning both down in favor of living with Steffy in order to avoid hurting either one. Given the constant emotional manipulation he's faced from the two parties, Hope using Douglas as an asset against Thomas and Thomas forcing him to keep his misdeed against Brooke in 2022 a secret, with Steffy being the only one who he's been able to rely on emotionally and as a moral compass, it's understandable why he'd do it but also heartbreaking in that Hope and Thomas feel rejected either way. Hope practically begs Steffy not to agree to take Douglas in is sad in of itself despite he's in no way related to Hope.
  • The slow deterioration of Taylor and Brooke's friendship in the Spring of 2023 over the fact that Brooke has been slowly welcoming Ridge back into his life despite their agreement and that Hope secretly has feelings for Thomas and continues to deny it which results in Brooke, once again, pointing fingers at Thomas and ultimately reigniting the feud between the two that was put behind them in December 2022. It was a disappointment for the few who wanted to see them do away with Ridge for good and finally not be at eachother's throats.
  • Liam's heartbreak over Hope cheating on him with Thomas in Rome, no matter how you feel about any of them, is still sad in that he placed his faith in Hope and their relationship only to watch it crumble right before his eyes. Keep in mind, he's been cheated on twice.
  • In direct contrast to the arc that took place in Summer 2022, the third Sheila/Finn plotline that began in the end of July 2023 shows the deterioration of Steffy and Finn's relationship is very heartbreaking considering all that they went through last year, especially in Finn's case given he took a bullet for her and fought to return to her in Monaco after being sedated and held hostage by Sheila.
    • Really just the fact that Both Sides Have a Point...Steffy is right to be worried for the kids' safety, but Finn is also not wrong about Liam using this as an opportunity to split them for his own gain. The real sting comes from Finn's clear hurt from the fact Steffy willingly defends Liam's actions in this discussion when Finn calls out that Liam's being an Opportunistic Bastard.
Steffy: What are you talking about?! He's thinking about Kelly! He's concerned about her. He's trying to protect us, keep us safe, Finn!
  • Eric Forrester's feeling of irrelevancy hits hard in that he's slowly dying and he feels like Forrester creations and the CEO's office has become a circus for family drama rather than actually designing anything. His desperation begins to show as he enlists RJ, who never wanted anything to do with his family's drama and was essentially forced into it by his own father, to prove himself to his own son that he still is ultimately the driving force behind the company.
