  • Soraya was always an Ungrateful Bastard to her beleaguered nanny and biological mother Nana Calixta. It really seemed like she felt no affection for the poor woman who was so painfully devoted to her, and their relationship was the source of many sad moments.
    • In their first conversation about Calixta's tragic backstory, we find out that she worked for Soraya's paternal grandmother since she was a child, then as a young woman around the time Soraya's father got married, she discovered that the man who'd left her pregnant had married another. As a result, she never could marry and never had children no NO no no NOOO no. Soraya find none of this suspicious, and spends the whole conversation wondering if she should get her nails done.
    • Later, the subject is brought up again after a revelation and we learn Calixta gave birth at the same time as Soraya's mother. Since the latter's child was not healthy, it was replaced with Calixta's little girl. Calixta wasn't consulted but accepted because life as a servant was so hard, she would never have wished it for her. For years, she saw her daughter grow up, unaware of their connection, a selfish, comptentuous monster who hated everything her biological mother was. And she still held silent, for her daughter's good. Soraya is furious, disowns her, and orders her to never speak of it again, all in the twenty seconds it takes her to throw her out.
    • Following the conversation, Lupe discovers Calixta's evil deeds and tries to confront her. Calixta runs out of the house sobbing, without taking her things, her clothes still torn from the beating Soraya gave her earlier.
    • Later, when she calls the De La Vega mansion to have news from Soraya (whose death was faked), Carlota answers. She hates their common enemy Maria, was Soraya's accomplice and had no beef against Calixta. Yet, she heard the revelation about Soraya's parentage, and revels in bluntly telling Calixta what she thinks happened. Calixta loses her mind and starts wandering the Streets ad a beggar.
    • When Calixta first encounters Soraya after that, she doesn't recognize her, and Soraya seems either terrified, shocked or moved. Yet she immediately takes control of herself and orders her to leave, without telling her that she's alive or trying to help.
    • Calixta is seen some time later in Soraya's room, having put the pieces together and regained her sanity. She's overjoyed and tries to hug her daughter, who disowns her once again, pushes her, and watched her fall backwards and hit her head on a marble table. Of course, she doesn't wake up.
    • After accidentally murdering her, she (Soraya) immediately embarks on a dramatic cover-up without a second thought. Yet, in the middle of her act as the bereaved daughter for the sole benefit of the police, she looks at Calixta's corpse. The camera lingers, a sad theme plays, and Soraya stops on her tracks. And without overacting, and with all marks of sincerity, she apologizes.
Soaraya: Forgive me, mother. For never loving you as much as you deserved.
    • Eventually, Soraya loses her mind, kidnaps Maria and starts owning to all her crimes, finally going as far as talking to Calixta in the afterlife in the hope that she can justify herself.
Soraya: It was HER fault. HER fault that I had to taint my hands with blood. [...] Her fault that I had to kill you, little nanny... MOTHER !
