Chapter 4: I Opened the Book, Therefore.
  • When the Megid is defeated, but nothing changes - and by extension, Sora does not return, Ryo lashes out at Touma. Not as a member of the Swords of Logos, but as a parent who had just lost his child (not in the way that phrase would imply). He berates the young author, asking if he has any idea what emotions are going through his mind as a father. Anyone with a child would probably feel the same way.
    • On top of that, Touma can't even retort or counter Ryo's anger. He damn well knows he's right, and all he can do is keep his word, which doesn't help in the slightest, once again being berated for what Ryo calls "shallow promises".

Chapter 6: Like the Wind, He Arrives.
  • Seeing the normally composed, yet kind-hearted Rintaro break down in a fit of rage towards Zooous when the latter reveals that he killed the previous Blades, Rintaro's master is both shocking and heartbreaking. Rintaro isn't even able to do a hint of damage against Zooous, who mockingly hands him his sword and tells Rintaro to "go home and cry to mommy". As Zooous leaves, Rintaro screams and pounds his fist into the ground in anger.
  • In a post-credits scene, Rintaro returns to headquarters battered up, and doesn't say a word. The only thing he does is retrieve the Tenkuu no Pegasus Wonder Ride Book, and promptly leave. The others are left in complete silence.

Chapter 8: The One That Is Sealed Is, Arthur.
  • The atmosphere in the Swords of Logos base when Touma tells Sora that Ryo was turned to stone. The way he talks to Sora, including giving him Ryo's Buster sword and Wonder Ride Book, almost feels like he's telling a child his father just died.

Chapter 10: Crossing Swords, And Crossing Feelings.
  • Upon The Reveal of Daichi being Calibur, Kento angrily demands to know his father's whereabouts. All Daichi claims in response is that Hayato did betray them, leading Kento attempting to fight him, only for Daichi to slash him off and escape.
    • Just the sheer fact that Daichi was the previous Saber and gave Touma words of inspiration 15 years back. Touma and a few others finding out about The Reveal bewilders them a lot.
    • Just as Touma attempts to console Kento, he then suddenly remembers that Kento was his and Luna's Childhood Friend. As Touma realizes, Kento angrily brushes him off, storms off the area, and sits all alone outside the balcony.

Chapter 11: Disturbed Thunder, Spreading Dark Clouds.
  • Rintaro and Kento getting into a huge dispute over Kento's current condition. Kento attempts to settle things with Calibur in hopes of finding out about his father, yet Rintaro tries to calm him down by reminding him of their mission. Unsurprisingly, Kento brushes him off.
  • The situation seems to weigh on Tetsuo quite a bit, as he yells at Rintaro and Kento to cut it out before storming out of the room.
    Tetsuo: I hate fighting.
  • In general, Kento's bitter mood throughout the episode that continues to drag him into the downward spiral of anger and revenge.
  • Rintaro revealing to Kento that he is an orphan, who was raised in the Sword of Logos with the other guildmembers being closest to family he has.
  • Even after how Kento treated him, Rintaro pulls a Heroic Sacrifice by shielding Kento from Calibur. This led to Rintaro being severely injured to the point of spitting out blood. He tells Kento about their duty before falling unconscious, causing Kento to cry while yelling his name.

Chapter 12: The Place Where We Made A Promise.
  • Hooo boy, this episode's a doozy, from start to finish.
  • Following the previous episode, Rintaro is now bedridden, being treated for his injuries. After Mei checks on him, she begins to tear into Kento for his selfishness until Ryo calms her down, who then chastises the young swordsman for his recklessness as well.
  • Later, Kento is seen by the unconscious Rintaro's bedside, apologizing for his actions. He then vows to settle his score with Calibur, swearing that he shall be the one to slay him.
    • The moment Kento leaves his side, Rintaro wakes up, looking horrified by what he had heard.
  • Oh, but the worst moment of all? Kento's near death, by Calibur's hand.
    • By the time Touma finds Kento, the latter is just barely clinging onto life. Once they begin to pinky-promise to save Luna together, Kento's hand falls short of Touma's and becomes despondent, leaving Touma to scream his name.

Chapter 13: This Time, I Will Stick to my Convictions.
  • Kento is revealed to have survived his battle with Calibur, but only barely so: not only have his injuries left him limited in battle, he's also dying from the corruption Kurayami placed on him.
  • Kento speaks his last words to his fellow swordsmen (and Mei) as he fades into dark clouds. Made even more poignant by everyone watching on helplessly, and Ren bawling loudly in the background.
    • What makes this worse is that after Kento succumbs to the darkness and fades, it is heavily implied he was absorbed into Kurayami...
      • It is confirmed in Sword of Logos that he has been sealed inside Kurayami, as Hayato trusted Kamijo with watching over Kento.
  • Following this is a minor Mood Whiplash due to the upbeat ending song... until the sequence features Kento all alone in the Trick Eye Museum that usually has the main four cast members playing around and having fun.

Chapter 14: Instill Your Feelings, Into This Blade.
  • Touma using Kento's ride book and sword to fight. This is both an awesome scene and a heartbreaking moment.
  • Saber vs Calibur. The fight goes on, even when Saber loses the Lamp do Alangina robe book, but still uses Ikazuchi to fight.
  • Kento is all alone in the Museum and it doesn't seem like the others notice his absence.

Chapter 15: What Lies, Beyond Our Resolution.
  • The question as to whether or not Hayato really did betray the Sword of Logos is answered. He did. Even worse, he is stated to be the one responsible for the event from 15 years ago. Maybe it's a good thing Kento wasn't present for this, considering how conflicted and confused he had been when Kamijo was revealed to be Calibur.
    • It was actually a misguided attempt at saving the worlds instead of destroying them. Make of it what you will.

Chapter 16: A Ray of Light, That Saves The World.
  • After failing to recruit Touma for the Southern Base, Reika assumes control over the Northern Base and goes to Rintaro, Ryo, Ren, and Tetsuo to claim that the Megid had captured Sophia, and that Touma had turned traitor. All of them believe her and confront him to reclaim his SworDriver and Ride Book. When he refuses, they do not hesitate to fight him. They don't want to hurt him (except for Ren), but they are worried he was infected by whatever corrupted Kamijo and Fukamiya and believe that restraining him until confirmed otherwise is in everyone's best interest. Unfortunately, they completely fail to communicate that to Touma, who in turn fails at getting them to understand why he is fighting back.
    • What makes it all worse is that just moments ago, they were all goofing off in Touma's bookstore, and now all of a sudden, the Swords of Logos turn on him.
    • The fact that Rintaro believes Reika. When Touma appeals to him, claiming the guild is deceiving him, he won't have any of it, claiming the guild that raised him - the guild he considers family - wouldn't do such a thing.
  • Just like in Chapter 13, the ending song features a character all alone in the Trick Eye Museum, and this time it's Touma, lacking his usual energy.

Chapter 17: Is The Ancient Messenger, Light or Shadow?
  • Touma is spiraling further and further into depression through the episode's events. He is doing poorly just at the start when a worringly quiet Mei comes to the rooftop hideout to find him dead eyed and slumped down in a sorry heap.
  • The Guild swordsmen are still mulling over the events, looking as defeated and helpless as Touma and Mei. Except perhaps Ren, who is mad with grief and needs to beat it out on someone, probably Touma. Others try and fail to stop him from running off on his own.
  • Touma and Mei's shock over the revelation of their current foe's identity. It's Ms. Yuki, Mei's boss. She was ambushed by Legeiel, who used an unfinished Alter Ride Book to turn her into a berserk Yeti monster. They are bent on saving her, but don't have any clues on how.
    • Touma is absolutely horrified by getting so close to killing someone. Mei doesn't think about the fight from that angle and is worried sick about her boss, a sweet person she has a good relationship with and who visibly suffers.

Chapter 18: With a Flaming Tenacity, Strike Down The Megid
  • Touma retreats to the empty Northern base to have some alone time to think.
  • Yuri's explanation that he left his humanity behind when he merged with the Sword of Light puts a different view to the misunderstanding over drinking bubble tea in the previous episode.
  • Rintaro and Daishinji try to talk to Touma, but neither side can get their point across and Yuri does not help at all by turning up. Then the Shirayuki Yeti arrives. Touma doesn't get to explain why he claims that Megid to be a human due to a mixture of the sudden attack, Rintaro refusing to stop assaulting the Megid, and Touma's own increasingly desperate state, turning the situation even more chaotic and potentialy convincing the Guild swordsmen he really lost his mind.
    • Worse still, Rintaro ends up injuring Touma when he takes a finisher for Yuki, leaving the swordsman horrified at the results.

Chapter 21: The Greatest Shine, Full Colors!
  • It's revealed that while Touma had been busy saving Yuki and Shingo in the previous episodes, that there were many more people who the Megid used to create new Alter Ride Books (which reaches Nightmare Fuel implications when you see the giant stack at the Megid's base). Touma and Mei go and interview the people who knew the victims, and it's shown how devastated many of them are by their disappearance. Understandably, Touma goes into Heroic BSoD over realizing that he's failed to save so many people.

Chapter 24: Upon The Father's Shoulders, Rests His Future.
  • Touma has a Thousand-Yard Stare and looks like if he had not slept for days after being used by Primitive Dragon for the first time.
    • Also, it's a question whether his face is drenched in sweat or tears after being used by Primitive Dragon.
  • After Ryo's defection, Rintaro becomes lost and confused. Put yourself into his shoes for a second. You've dedicated your life to an organization that not only took you in as an orphan, but essentially raised you. You've begun to see them, and your fellow swordsmen as your family. All of a sudden, the status of your family is brought into question, and one by one, those you considered family begin leaving you. Honestly, it's hard not to feel sorry for the poor guy.
    • Hell, even Ren's lost as well. Without Kento being there as the voice of reason for him, he's having trouble deciding his next course of action. He doesn't make any snide remarks or wise cracks, he's just... quiet, and lost.
  • According to Touma and Master Logos, the Forbidden Tome contains a sorrowful soul. That in itself means his rampage is nothing short of an intense sorrow driving him wild.
    • One redditor managed to roughly translate the photo of the story on the official Kamen Rider website, titled "The Story of Sorrow".
      • The story told of the "Dragon of the Beginning" that once befriended a clan of humans, in which they and the dragon clan lived in perfect harmony. After the Dragon of the Beginning fell into a long slumber, time went on and the humans began expanding their reach, where many had forgotten the existence of the dragons. Though saddened, they wished for the happiness for the humans. However, when some humans went in search of the dragons, the dragons were ecstatic over their reunion but were attacked by the humans instead, long forgetting they were friends, and interpreted them as monsters. Refusing to fight those they considered friends, the dragons fell to the humans until the slumbering dragon remained. When he awoke, he was horrified and greatly saddened to see that he had lost all his comrades. For the next hundreds of thousands of years, the lone Dragon of the Beginning would venture onwards, in search of a companion. Even after he died, his soul remained, still searching.
    • All of this makes Primitive Dragon a lot more tragic. If the sorrowful soul's story is anything like the story inside the book, every aspect about it is it desperately trying to hold onto what few friends it can have and lashing out at any threat to them (in this case, clinging on to Touma, to the point of forcibly taking control of his body, and attacking any perceived threat like a panicked beast), regardless of if the threat is valid or not or if they're Touma's friends.

Chapter 25: Dressed In Smoke, The Crimson Assassin.
  • Touma's nightmare in the beginning where he sees himself, in Primitive Dragon form, with all his comrades dead and Mei badly injured. His scream is of pure anguish, and he begs himself to stop it as his body unwillingly moves to attack Mei. It was all just a bad dream, but one that could happen if he didn't find a way to save the soul in the Forbidden Tome.
  • Sora is drawing a sad dragon, all curled up and alone. He also confirms that his inspiration for the drawing came from "The Story of Sorrow" described above in Chapter 24.
  • Rintaro finally meets with Mei and breaks down in front of her due to recent events.
Rintaro: *tearfully* I don't want to lose any more comrades!
Mei: And Touma isn't your comrade?
    • He doesn't know what he is supposed to do anymore because he has started to doubt Sword Of Logos, but seeing Primitive Dragon convinced him that the order to kill Touma is a legitimate one.
  • Touma and Rintaro's heart-to-heart was bound to fall apart because it devolved to them shouting at each other.
    • It wasn't mindless shouting either: Rintaro doesn't want to be forced to kill his friend, and Touma doesn't want to give up saving the world and the people.
    • He unloads all the anguish and anger that has been pilling up inside him since New Year, starting with berating him for getting himself in over his head without a single hint of a way out. As he gains steam he even mocks Touma's desire to save everyone by asking if he promised to help the boy he saw while under the control of Primitive Dragon. Touma's betrayed, desperate expression sells it. Thankfully Mei steps in and has the two sit side by side to discuss things calmly again.
  • The world inside the forbidden book is an empty forest with broken statues, where it always rains. The last dragon meets Touma there in the shape of a crying child and reaches out to him.

Chapter 26: Deep In The Darkness, Allied With The Sword
  • Kento's return would be a cause for celebration...if the preview didn't have him say that he intends on sealing away the Sacred Swords under the belief that it's the only way to protect the world. The synopsis of the episode also doesn't help matters, with Reika declaring Kento an enemy, much to Ren's dismay.
    • What hits even harder is the reason he came to this conclusion, and why his smile is gone: The Sword of Darkness Kurayami has shown him multiple futures where they try to stop the world from being destroyed and fail every single time, all because the swords are used at the same time, the seal is completed, and the Book of All is made, erasing the world except for him. Even when they're shown winning, it's immediately ripped from them... because they're still using the swords. Being forced to watch them die again and again slowly ate away at his mind and soul so that at the end of the montage showing all the futures he has seen, he is shown laying in the darkness and shedding a single final tear.
  • Kento's first action as Calibur is to seal the Sword-Gun of Sound Suzune, preventing Tetsuo from ever becoming Slash again. After Kento makes his leave and Reika exploits the situation to confiscate Hanselnuts to Gretel, Tetsuo curls up into a ball and begins crying and screaming in grief while desperately clinging to what is now a useless hunk of metal and screaming its name in despair. The sheer magnitude of his despair makes it seem like he lost a child rather than a weapon, which isn't too outlandish to believe since his clan forged the elemental Seiken.
  • While Suzune is being sealed, Touma tries to transform into Dragonic Knight to stop Kento, clearly on the verge of tears while doing so and wondering what on Earth happened to his best friend. In doing so, he breaks a fire sprinkler, causing water to pour down on him and thus drive home his shock and emotional pain. And it gets worse: The Primitive Dragon responds to his grief and takes over, causing Touma to finally break down sobbing as he shocks Kento out of his transformation.
    • The worst part is what Primitive Dragon does after taking over: Nothing. It just stands there, howling in pain and sorrow.
    • Kento knew this is going to happen and told Touma not to worry because his transformation is going to end without hurting anyone.
      • Meanwhile within the world of the book, the spirit of the dragon tries to reach out to Touma...only for him to continue weeping, inadvertently rejecting the boy. This makes the spirit even sadder and it leaves Touma to wallow alone.

Chapter 27: Turn That Sorrow, Into A Smile.
  • Just a few words shared by the child that represents the Primitive Dragon ought to jab hard:
Primitive Dragon: You? Save me? *shouting* A human like you could never understand!
Primitive Dragon: *mumbling* Where is everyone...?
  • The Tale of Sorrow is told in full by the Primitive Dragon spirit, confirming the maddening sorrow that drove him to attack anyone who tried to reach him, even Touma through the episode to control the form until he realized what he really had to do.
Primitive Dragon: A long time ago, us dragons and you humans lived together in harmony. But then one day, the humans who feared us started hunting down all my friends. Now, I'm the only one left. Where are you? Where'd you all go? My friends are nowhere to be found... I'm all alone...
    • Even worse? The picture book background reveals that not only he was just a child when he found himself alone, but he died all alone at the end of his journey, always uttering those words: "Where are you? Where'd you all go?"
    • The story is genuinely so sad that Touma sheds tears and sobs a bit before giving it a new (and happy) end.
  • It's revealed Legeiel, along with the other two Megid generals and Tassel/Victor, used to be genuinely happy as friends, and that their happiness was somehow robbed from them and turned into an obsession for power.

Chapter 28: Writing the Past, Drawing the Future.
  • Kento is unsure about the path he has chosen after seeing Touma defy the predetermined futures by successfully soothing the rage inside the Primitive Dragon in #27. He eventually assures himself that he chose the right thing and has to continue.
  • As divisive as a character he is, it's hard not to feel bad for Ren this episode, following his defection from the Sword of Logos. Desiring to have Kento return to the side of good and fight together as comrades once more, Ren is only met with having his ass handed to him, and his Fuusouken Hayate getting sealed. With all that said and done, all Ren is left with is a former friend turning against him, a sword he can't even transform with anymore, and a completely shattered spirit.
Ren: Kento-kun! This can't be happening! WHY!?
    • Jarringly, he was so damn excited to talk to him and couldn't know that the other swordsmen have already tried to and the only result was Touma being briefly driven insane with grief and confusion.
    • It's not even that he can't transform with. Kento only sealed half of Hayate, so it means he can't split the sword nor turn it into shuriken.

Chapter 29: In That Moment, The Swordsman Advanced.
  • Rintaro discovers the truth behind the Sword of Logos: Master Logos himself is the traitor within the SoL, that they have Sophia captured, and that the Divine Sages are all dead. He does not take it well.
    • Despite his earlier doubts, this is when his entire world view actually collapses. He put his whole identity into blindly believing Master Logos and by extension Reika and it all blew up in his face. Not to speak that he broke the oath he, Touma and Kento made to always be there for each other.
      • On top of that, Touma is not mad at him. That stings.
    • He is so shaken and emotionally torn by these new revelations, that he asks Touma to renege on his and Kento's promise to protect and help each other and focus on fighting Durandal and destroy the Guild.
      • And yet, when Touma confronts him if he is serious about his request, Rintaro immediately breaks down. His emotions are driving him to make such outlandish claims, but his intentions are true, desiring the need to set the Guild straight and restore it to its former glory.
  • Right when they are about to leave, Durandal slashes an untransformed Touma in the back, leaving him to fall into Rintaro's arms. He survives, thanks to Yuri's healing abilities, but for a moment Rintaro feared for his friend's life.

Chapter 30: We Are Bonded, Even When Apart!
  • Despite the episode starting off on a positive note, things quickly get dire for our heroes soon after.
    • First off, Mei gets turned into the Neko Megid thanks to Zooous. Compounding this is that Yuri set off to find Tassel, meaning that their best hope of separating her is through Touma and Rekka.
    • Next, Zooous is canny enough to realize that Rintaro is emotionally compromised, and decides to give him both a physical and emotional beatdown. The Neko Megid Gaslighting him by telling him that Mei's disappointed in him definitely doesn't help either.
    • Finally, even with Touma being able to use Rekka's ability to try and separate Mei from the Megid, Zooous forces a Sadistic Choice on him by trying to finish Rintaro off just as Touma is about to strike the Neko Megid, forcing Saber to jump in and defend Rintaro at the last minute.
      • And Rintaro's frustration is all the more justifiable: he wants Mei saved at all costs, which leaves us with a new problem...
  • As far as Rintaro is concerned, he wants to see Mei saved at all costs, even at the cost of Neko Megid's hostages and his own life.
    • Doesn't help he sees himself weak and falls for the taunts of Zooous and the Neko Megid, who doesn't spare Touma either and mocks him by briefly turning into Mei to get his guard down before striking.
  • Zooous has fun with torturing Mei by telling her that Rintaro is either dead or dying.
  • We see Kento just watching, with his words implying that Mei and Rintaro would die soon.
  • What makes things worse is that the next episode preview doesn't play with the heroic music of ALMIGHTY, but rather, a dramatic piece that hammers home how dire the situation is.
    • On top of that, the ending sequence has Rintaro all alone in the Trick Eye Museum.

    Chapter 32: My Thoughts, Crystallized
  • Ogami tried to slow Zooous down and got beaten within an inch of his life. To rub salt into the wound, Reika used this opportunity to steal Gekido.
  • Sofia was prepared to sacrifice herself so that the remaining Northern Base swordsmen could escape. Rintaro was most visibly distraught by this and decided to go down instead of her. In the end, neither of them had to, but they still suffered major loses.
  • Much like Legeiel before, Zooous also returned to his former human self before dying.
(praising Rintaro's fighting skills in their last battle) You're pretty strong too. See you around.

Chapter 33: Even So, We Can Still Change The Future!
  • Ogami is in the hospital after the attack on Northern base. His condition is stabilized, but still critical.
  • Touma indirectly hands Mei's pin to Kento, who actually seems to feel something when looking at the drawing of his former self.
  • The sheer amount of puppy soccer delivered to Touma and Kento through this short timespan:
    • Master Logos lets it slip to Kento that he was the one who corrupted Kurayami and caused Hayato to betray the Guild. His casual delivery of that fact hammers home how much of a petty, sadistic bastard he is.
    • Something happens in the fight between Touma, Kento and Master Logos that creates an opening into Luna's prison. Touma immediately runs towards it, even dropping Rekka on the way, and reaches out to Luna, who does the same. The opening closes before either of them gets there, leaving Touma a sobbing wreck on the ground. Kento doesn't even use that opportunity to seal Rekka, having seen the future where that failed to accomplish anything anyways.
    • When it seems like Touma might be getting through to Kento, first Master Logos attacks and then Kento has a vision of himself crying and calling out Touma's name as he is forced to watch him die. It easily crushes any chance of them reuniting.
    • Touma finds Mei's pin on the ground, underscoring Kento's rejection of his former self. He is not coming back.

Chapter 34: Awaken Once Again, O Immortal Swordsman.
  • As it turns out, Bahato used to be a genuinely good person and was friends with Yuri. All that changed when their third companion murdered Bahato's family in his apparent lust for power. That single incident, along with Yuri's "betrayal" of sealing him inside the Book of Ruin, turned him into the Omnicidal Maniac we see today.
  • Upon learning Bahato's Dark and Troubled Past, he attempts to appeal to the Phoenix Swordsman, hoping there's still some good left in him. Bahato's response is to laugh and attack Touma.

Chapter 40: Shining Friendship, the Three Swordsmen.
  • Ryoga Shindai is painfully turned into Solomon's puppet and forced to attack his own sister while being aware of this and unable to control his own body. He begs her to cut him down, and Reika refuses.

    Chapter 41: After 2, 000 Years, A Binding Wish.
  • Tassel and Sophia reveal that should Touma choose to join with Luna, he shall gain the power of Wonder World, though doing so will erase him from this world. No one takes this revelation well, and are pissed that Touma even has to make this choice at all.

Chapter 42: So Begins, The Beautiful End.
  • After getting beaten around by Storious, Tassel attempts to reach out to him by reminding him of the good times they had together, only for Storious to callously run him through with his sword. He then tearfully apologizes to Storious, revealing that he blames himself for journeying to find the Wonder World in the first place, which led to his friends' descent into villainy.
    • How about Storious himself? For a good moment while Tassel pleaded with his old friend to remember what they all gathered for in the pursue of the Wonder World, Storious seemed to remember his more pure thoughts, to the point he dropped his menacing tone. And if that wasn't enough, after stabbing Tassel he seemed to have come to the realization that he just killed his last friend, and looks shocked up until the moment he crosses path with Touma.
  • Touma realizes Desast is dying, and to mask his pain the Megido just says "he doesn't feel like [fighting] anymore".
    • The preview of the next episode shows Ren will finally take on Desast's challenge proper, and that he regrets having met the Swordsman of the Wind.
    • EVERYTHING about Desast in this episode is a huge tearjerker. He sees himself slowly fading away, is reminded of having no purpose, Storious (who created him on a whim) wants him destroyed, and even loses all his desire to fight as soon as Touma sees he can't heal properly anymore.

Chapter 43: In Conflict, We Find Our Worth.
  • Ren watches Desast's attempts to heal himself from afar, obviously conflicted how to feel about or approach him.
  • Ren finally takes on challenging Desast, even knowing the Megid doesn't have much life left in him. It's evident he's not giving it his all, deep inside he doesn't want Desast to go.
    • Halfway through their fight, Will Save Us starts playing. That is the cue that his end draws near.
    • This exchange that happens with an almost out of place serenity. It is clear their feelings are the opposite of what they say.
Desast: Dammit. I never should've called out to you.
Ren: Yeah. Would've been better if we had never met.
    • Desast doesn't go out in a bang like monsters usually does through the series, he slowly dissolves in ashes scattered to the wind, leaving behind his broken Alter Ride Book, scarf, the Mumeiken Kyomu and Eternal Phoenix Wonder Ride Book, all of which Ren took with him after.

Chapter 45: Ten Swordsmen, With the World at Stake.
  • Mei finds a manuscript in Touma's bookstore labelled Eternal Story which motivates her to act, even as it's revealed the Megid hosts (including her) are starting to vanish as well. At first it's not made clear why she's taken aback by the words to the point of tears, until Touma's writing is reoriented and translated. They're all words and phrases related to death and destruction.
  • Daishinji seems to be mortally wounded fighting Spartan. Like the last time he was crippled in combat, he's left unable to do anything but cradle Suzune for comfort, before finally collapsing from his injuries.
  • The apparitions of Legiel and Zooous pleads Storious to stop trying to destroy the world and questions what happened with their original, peaceful, goals as well as his passion for poetry.
    • The truth of what drove him mad? It was not power, it was the realization that in truth mankind created nothing and that everything has been written in the Omniscient Tome, including the world's destruction.
  • Ren using Desast's signature move 'Calamity Strike' and watching as Desast's book finally disintegrates...

Chapter 46: Fare Thee Well, My Hero.
  • This is it. It's the heroes' Darkest Hour. To wit:
    • Tetsuo is revealed to have survived his injuries. Unfortunately, he's got no time to relax as he has to face off with Highlander and is forced to watch as Ryo gets hit by this Lord of Wise.
    • Ryo gets worn out and injured. He can only say his son's name as he lies on the ground.
    • Ryoga and Reika go all out on Diago and kill him at the cost of the Kaiji breaking and both siblings seemingly dying. They reach out and call for each other as they're lying on the ground.
    • Yuri seems to be doing something to the wounded...whatever it is, it probably ain't good for his survival. That, and the fact that he's probably still fading is utterly dire for this Swordsman of Light.
    • Luna struggling to head off to Storious' new base. Her pain is heartwrenching.
  • Not just the heroes, but also to Storious, who gave a long explanation of why he spiralled into madness: he was a passionate novelist, just like Touma, until the day he has read the contents of the Omniscient Book and saw that everything he wrote and will write already exists in its pages, and that his creations are merely a copy of a greater work, that made him realize how insignificant human life is in face of the secret of the whole universe and how they created nothing, that they were just copying off of a greater work.
Final Chapter: As The World Ends, A New Tale is Born.
  • Remember Yuri getting close to the wounded? He's actually healing them. Unfortunately, while it's heartwarming, it's also sad, since he fades away completely after that.
    • It's also implied by Ren breathing again that the wounded actually died and Yuri is actually reviving them.
  • After so many episodes of Touma trying to save her, the build up to the finale leads to the near-unthinkable: Luna's sacrifice. She initiates the same ritual like Isaac, only this time it's on her own terms and unites the other Seiken to form the Wonder Almighty Wonder Ride Book to give Touma and his two friends a better chance at defeating Storious.
  • Storious' final stand ends with him seeing Touma managed to make a new story and regretting the world is coming to an end. Unlike the other Megids, he did not achieve happiness in death because he knew he would return to nothing.
  • While it's satisfying to see Storious get trashed by Touma, Rintaro and Kento, he's still crestfallen over how his actions doomed both Wonder World and Earth. Even in his dying moments, you can't help but feel sorry for him.
  • As the world seemingly ends, Touma collapses to the ground and his two buddies try to comfort him...and then everything turns black.
    • This changes into happy tears, however. While all alone in the dark, Touma hears a story from a child, followed by more kids and then adults. He makes use of those stories to bring back both worlds.
  • One year later...and Touma's gone as Kento narrates, having been drafted into Wonder World as its new guardian. Kento even mentions the Megids' many victims also haven't returned...
  • Mei's speech as she accepts the award for Touma's last book on his behalf. She's missing him as her best friend and tells him to never miss his deadlines, now that he's writing stories somewhere else...
  • In the midst of this seemingly Bittersweet Ending...the missing folks return. Apparently they're missing so much, such that it may take some time for them to reconnect with any friends or relatives they possibly have. It's not as bad as the victims from Avengers: Endgame but still.
  • To top it off on joyful tears, Touma returns. Apparently, the Wonder Almighty Wonder Ride Book didn't just bring back the Megids' victims, but also allowed him to visit his friends in the flesh.

Movies and spin-offs

    Trio of Deep Sin
  • Rintaro finally meets his father, and it turns out that Shinjiro is one of the people erasing the swordsmen and issues a challenge to his own son if he seeks to shoulder the grudge of every victim of the swordsmen conflicts.
    • One more for Shinjiro: he distanced from his family to protect those precious to him, and yet he saw the sacrifice of few to save the lives of many. He's basically a broken veteran at this point.
  • Yuina lost her fiancé during one of Kamen Rider Espada's battle, and because of that she only got close to Kento to look for an opportunity to erase him and other swordsmen just out of revenge.
  • Riku's PTSD breakdowns whenever he remembers the Kamiyama Book Store burning or the Fire Swordsman are extremely heart-wrenching, especially because he is responsible for it and doesn't remember.
  • The ends of each of the Swordsmen of the Void is guaranteed to make anyone cry. Except Bahato maybe.
    • Shinjiro was willing to spare his son all along if he just gave up being a swordsman, because he is the only one with any memory of Rintaro at this point. Yet, as he dies, he praises his son for choosing that path on his own. Rintaro can only sob and let the waterworks run as he suddenly ceases to be when his father breathes his last.
    • Yuina was never able to move on, but even if she hated Kento because of her loss, she still wanted him to live on and that a bit of her love for him was what gave him the power he needed to save her from her own grudge. Unfortunately, Kyomu had other plans and impaled itself in her, leaving her fatally wounded.
      • In hopes of trying to save her, Kento attempts to claim his own life with the Kyomu, but Yuina stops him and scrambles to hide from him, as she wanted him to go and live his life, unaware that as soon as her own ended he would soon follow unwillingly.
    • Mamiya luckily avoids death, but makes a sad realization that he didn't just fabricate Touma's memory, but his own were torn in two. By the time he realizes that he not only came close to killing Touma, Riku and Lucky, would have killed his father figure, as his memories of his father are actually from Riku's perspective, and Lucky was his closest friend ever since the day he supposedly lost his father.
      • He eventually realizes he didn't hate dogs, but it's too late, as Lucky passes away of natural causes in front of both Mamiya and Riku.
      • Mamiya and Riku uses the Amazing Siren Wonder Ride Book to undo his own past, and in turn erasing everything it caused, including their current existence, leading to Touma witnessing the two disappear. Although there's a bit of heartwarming that follows: he feels the two hug him and say "Thank you, dad.", and they left Touma's memories intact.
