#2: "The Global Police in Pursuit"
  • We see the backstory of the Lupinrangers that reveals how they became thieves: a year before the series began, Zamigo Delma froze Touma's fiancee, Umika's best friend, and Kairi's older brother...who then shattered into nothing almost instantly afterwards. The pained expressions on the Lupinrangers' faces in the flashback and when they are visiting the spots where it happened is apparent. What makes Kairi's case even more heartrending is that just before his brother was frozen, he had brushed him off when he was trying to talk to him, and even knocked him to the ground.
  • It gets worse when we see Kogure recruiting Kairi. Kairi's still on his knees in that alleyway in the dark of night, with the implication that he's been there in a state of shell shock all day long.

#3: "We Will Get Them Back!"
  • Touma's past trauma is shown in greater detail, and it's a doozy. He was late to checking out wedding venues with his bride-to-be Aya and was chatting with her on the phone on his way to meet up with her when she was attacked and killed by Zamigo. The last words she ever spoke to him were "Five minutes can be life or death", the last words he ever spoke to her were "You're making it sound like such a big deal" and the very last sound he ever heard her make was a terrified, agonized scream. The look of pain on his face as she shatters makes it seem like someone tore out a piece of his soul. Is it any wonder that he's in such a rush to assemble the Lupin Collection and wish her back?

     #5:"Targeted Global Police"
  • Kairi VS Keiichirou or Lupin Red VS Patran Ichigou. The leaders of their respective team debated of how the Lupin Collection should be used and more importantly, the vigilante Phantom thieves, Lupinrangers or the official authority, Patrangers, with who gets the rights to fight the Ganglars. Keiichirou crossed the line when he declared the Lupinrangers are wrong the moment they choose the path of Phantom Thieves. This line, along with the anguish coming from Kairi after recalling the moments he saw Shouri vanished, make it all heartwrenching.
Kairi: We become Phantom Thieves because it's our only choice! I don't care what you think!

     #7: "Always Saved"
  • This episode rounds out the Lupinrangers' tragedies with the circumstance of Umika's best friend getting frozen by Zamigo. Umika was picked on by the other students when they were in grade school, and her best friend Shiho always defended her. Years later, Umika found out that Shiho was an aspiring Mangaka and supported her entering a contest that she won. They were on their way to celebrate when suddenly Shiho saw something that caused her to shove Umika to the ground... and got frozen by Zamigo leading to... well... Touma has to endure the fact that Zamigo took his love away from him. Kairi has to deal with an absolutely horrible case of Parting-Words Regret. Umika? She has to live with the knowledge that her best friend died Taking the Bullet for her.

     #8: "The Phantom Thieves' Identities"
  • More is added to Kairi's already harsh backstory. It turns out that his parents had died years ago, meaning his brother was his only family left before Zamigo killed him.
  • Also, for a gut-wrenching Dramatic Irony version, the Global Police are unaware of the full details of Zamigo's rampage from a year ago (including his identity), and think that his victims are merely missing (doesn't help that when they shattered they left no evidence of their existence behind) instead of outright dead. This includes the official story being that Touma's fiance left him and that Umika dropped out of her high school after the missing persons incident.

     #9: "To See Them Again"
  • More glimpses are given of Kairi's backstory. When he was young, he looked up to his brother and idolized him, saying he wanted to be like him when he grew up. As he grew older, however, he found himself unable to measure up to his brother's success and began to feel inferior, which led to him resenting his brother.
  • The episode ends on a whammy downer note. The Patrangers end up destroying the Gangler before the Lupinrangers can obtain his collection piece. Remember that in order for their wish to be granted, they need to obtain the entire collection. In other words, the Patrangers have unknowningly destroyed the Lupinrangers' hopes to ever see their lost loved ones again.
    • Twisting the knife more they immediately attempted to arrest the Lupinrangers and given their lack of resistance would have if they hadn't been distracted by a giant monster.
    • Thankfully dulled somewhat by the next episode preview, where sharp-eyed viewers can notice a blink-and-you'll-miss-it appearance from the Gangler that was supposed to be destroyed being fought by Lupin Kaiser, which means true to the next episode's title, It's not over yet.

     #10: "It's Not Over Yet"
  • We see Umika and Touma back at the site where the Gangler was destroyed, desperate to find any part of the piece so that they may put it back together. This fortunately takes a turn for the better when they realize that normally Gauche would make the fallen Gangler big. After confirming that with Sakyua their hopes restored.
  • The way Kairi goes straight after Zamigo in this episode. Obviously, with no other option, he goes straight after the killer in hope that his death can bring back their loved ones, or at the very least, bring him revenge. And unlike other situations, he was fully prepared to die.
  • At the end of the episode, after getting back the collection piece they had thought was lost, they hide their Plan B from Kogure. If they fail to recover the collection pieces, they will go straight for Zamigo. Doesn't seem like a tearjerker but considering how desperate they were and how powerful Zamigo is, their Plan B may lead to their deaths and they still don't know if killing Zamigo will bring their loved ones back.

     #13: "Best and Worst Holiday"
  • It's easy to forget because the Patrangers don't have as bad of a backstory as the Lupinrangers but, as referenced in #13, they have had a poor history against the Gangler. Up until they received their VS Changer and Trigger Machines, they have been unsuccessful with dealing with the Gangler threat, and they feel awful about letting so many down.
    • Not helped by the fact the public continues to talk about how the Lupinrangers are more effective at taking down the Gangler.

     #17: "Hidden Feelings"
  • At the end of the episode, it was revealed that Keiichiro was completely aware of Mina's feelings the whole time but chose to ignore them because he has decided to put all his focus on defeating the Ganglers and bringing peace to the world again. However, before her departure, Keiichiro hands Mina his favorite record and tells her to listen to his favorite song: Secret Feeling.

#24: "A Promise to Return Alive"
  • A bit of this is tearjerking for Kairi and Tsukasa. Like Kairi, Tsukasa's parents had died only leaving her Grandfather to raise her, though being a policeman himself, he had raised her rather strict. But after almost getting mugged, Tsukasa using her Grandfather's training to full effect though leaving one cut, her Grandfather was elated to see her alive after the ordeal. Once again, this is a sticking point to Kairi seeing as how he will never get the same chance Tsukasa does.
  • By extension how the conversation started, by Tsukasa pointing out that his brother might be worried, which freezes Kairi for a second. He's not surprised by her knowing this, considering their stances he'd be more surprised if they didn't investigate him, but rather it stung a bit considering he's gone from his life, something the Patrangers doesn't know about.
  • During the fight against Giwi, Tsukasa considers using a lucky pendant she had gotten from Kairi during their talk to ensure that she can fire at the Gangler whose Collection Piece gives him the ability to evade and redirect attacks fired at him. However, overusing said luck will turn the user into a plant whose roots suck away the host's life energy. In her hesitation however, Kairi snatches it from her and puts it on. It works, but Kairi becomes plant himself, something he could have died from had it not been successful. This in turn causes Tsukasa to realize something about the Lupinrangers, that something is driving them forward that they're willing to die for. The audience knows what that is, but the Patrangers don't.

#25: "I Will Make You Stronger Than Ever"
  • Noel finally reveals the reason why he become phantom thief is that he also wants to take back a person he cares about, just like the Lupinrangers.

     #28: "Fighting on my Birthday"
  • It's revealed that Umika had indeed dropped out of school as soon as the missing persons incident that took Shiho had happened. While her parents knew the incident affected her, she was adament about leaving to work at the bistro, obviously not telling her parents about her true motivations. While her mother gave her blessing, her father wasn't budging and up until the end of the episode, never took any effort into talking to him.
    • By extention, Aya's parents had blamed Touma for Aya's disappearance.

     #30: "Vacation for Two"
  • Even more is added to Kairi's angst as now Keiichiro has started to act the same way as his brother. Mainly that Keiichiro's earnest personality is starting to rub Kairi the wrong way. Not that it's Keiichiro's fault, helping others is his passion, thus when he is forced to surrender the Trigger Machine Splash to Kairi so that he may save the city instead of him, Kairi is coming off of this episode rather depressed at himself that no matter what he does, he's still feels overshadowed by his brother and now Keiichiro.

     #31: "The Gangler Who Surrendered"
  • Tsukasa's naivete is played with a bit. When a Gangler surrenders to the Global Police, he asks to be set free with a new identity in exchange for information. While investigating him, Noel suspects that something is up, especially with his collection piece, but Tsukasa manages to break through. Noel tells her to be wary but as she is so earnest with this case, he doesn't tell her the problem with his collection piece until it's too late. When the Gangler hands over his piece to Tsukasa, his personality does a 180 and becomes aggressive, which is what the collection piece does, taking his evil personality and making it good. The more intense the feeling of one side, the other will be stronger, and vice versa when it gets removed. Worst of all, those emotions the good side shows are genuine.

     #32: "Challenge to a Duel"
  • This episode involves a duel with Noel and Keiichiro with two things at stake, the Patranger's cooperation or the Lupinranger's surrender. During the fight, Noel brings up one thing that catches Keiichiro off guard, that the Collection Pieces are their key to getting their loved ones back, calling back to when Lupinred told him that he didn't become a Lupinranger because he wanted to. This ends when Noel fired a Superior X at Keiichiro, at first we don't see the result, only that the Patrangers will be cooperating. When we finally see the result of the outcome, Keiichiro had broken through and had Noel at gunpoint to his face... only to shoot the reflective armor giving Noel the victory. At the end, while Noel knew Keiichiro threw the fight and was grateful for it, Keiichiro reflected on what happened to Noel and the Lupinrangers.
    • What probably sealed the deal was the final standoff. When Keiichiro had Noel at gunpoint, Noel said nothing as if he was daring Keiichiro to shoot him. After all, if he can't get the Patranger's cooperation, then they can't retrieve the collection pieces so he might as well be dead. When Keiichiro shot his armor, Noel knew he gave up right then and there.

#33: "We're the Kid Phantom Thieves"
  • The tearjerker moment from #32 is followed up with this up with a very realistic outcome. When Keiichiro asks what happens when the Collection Pieces are all together, Noel doesn't give him an answer, not because he refuses, but because he doesn't know. Remember that Noel is the only other person, next to Kogure, who knows the intricacies of the Lupin Collection, and even he doesn't know if this will work putting into perspective that in the end, everything the Lupinrangers have been fighting for may be for naught.

     #34: "Legendary Gun"
  • The Lupinrangers are trapped in an illusion where the only way out is to shoot the person closest to you. If you refuse you're shot by a multitude of arrows and placed in a brief coma. Touma, Umika, even Noel are unable to bring themselves to do it. But Kairi confesses to the illusion of his brother that he's actually enjoying the life of a phantom thief before shooting him.
  • Also if you were to compare Kairi to the other Lupinrangers he has several differences from them in terms of character despite that all of them have the same goal. Unlike them Kairi doesn't have a talent he can use for the futurenote . Also unlike them his relation with his loved one is actually more negative than positive compared to them since Kairi always felt couldn't compare to his brother and it was shown they had a fight before he got frozen. This makes Kairi's statement of enjoying his life of a phantom thief even more tragic since unlike the other Lupinrangers, Kairi doesn't have a dream or goal in life and while he does care about his brother, their relation isn't exactly positive. Being a phantom thief was truly the first and only thing he was good at and managed to excel at.

     #37: "Your Place to Return"
  • Kairi's issues continue being played up between himself a whole lot more. Yadoga's attack of sending the teams home works well...except for him. While some think it's because of some sort of special ability he just had, if you watched the previous episodes, then the implication is clear: Even with the Lupinrangers on his side and the bistro, he doesn't have a home at all, likely ever since his brother's death.
    • There's more to this when you think about why Touma and Umika were sent back to Jurer instead of their homes (and we know Umika has a family out there). The whole Lupinranger business essentially meant that all three of them have given up everything in their lives for their mission, which is why Jurer is seen by them as the only place they have left in their lives. Which means Kairi is so far gone that he's only held back in the mission by nothing.
  • It gets worse when Keiichirou tries to talk about him as a friend, you read that right, A FRIEND. He has grown accustomed in meeting him from the bistro and his moments together is what lead him to think of that. Even discounting the fact that Kairi is actually a thief. The scene is pretty reminiscent of people who try to push others away from their issues because of their fear of getting them hurt, making the scene even more meaningful if you had a similar experience. The saddest part comes with this:
Keiichirou: I talked to Touma. You got into a fight?
Kairi: [Silent for a moment then sighs] What are you getting at?
Keiichirou: ...I've been worried for a while. You seemed down on a trip, too...If anything is going on, I'd like to offer my advice.
Kairi: [Kairi's memories flash to him, making him more uncomfortable]
Keiichirou: I want to help you if I can, Kairi.
Kairi: [Pushes Keiichirou away while trying to touch his shoulder. All because it reminded him of what his brother did before he pushed him away]
    Keiichirou: ...Kairi?
Kairi: Whatever makes you happy, man...
  • Later, when Tsukasa notices Keiichirou's troubled feelings, she's the one who gives him of his mental status. Realizing the implications, he decides to leave him be for a while...before Tsukasa asks him what he'll do, leaving him silent even more.

     #39: "Bet on This"
  • Continues with Kairi's issues to some extent, and while minor in comparison to #37, it's still saddening to see Kairi getting more hostile to Keichiirou.
Keiichirou: Running some chores early today?
    Kairi: Chores? I'm not a kid, y'know.
Keiichirou: I guess you're right. You're an adult, with a proper job. Forgive the rudeness. I'm sorry.
Kairi: You don't have to make such a big deal about it.
Keiichirou: Really? Sorry. [Notices his wording] Oh...
Kairi: You gonna follow me all the way back?! The GSPO building's that way, isn't it?
    Keiichirou: Well...
    Kairi: Seeya.
    Keiichirou: [Sighs] This is tough...
Kairi: [Internally] Don't follow me around, man. How much like my brother do you have to be?
  • Kairi comes to a bit of a revelation in this episode, until this episode Kairi assumed that Noel's loved one was missing because of Zamigo, but since Noel has never heard of Zamigo until this episode, how did he lose his loved one?
  • After the revelation of Zamigo's powers. One has to wonder how well the Lupinranger will take the fact that their loved ones may still be alive.

#42: "Time For The Decisive Match"
  • Whatever Gauche is hiding, it scared both Noel and Kogure. The two have a bit of an argument over what had transpired, with Kogure citing the result of the battle as the reason Noel should have stayed behind at the Lupin Estate in Paris. Meanwhile, Noel states he couldn't just sit back and watch, not wanting to lose anything else. However, Kogure isn't having any of it, stating the loss of two collection pieces to Destra will result in even greater loss, and requests that Noel remains behind the scenes and not engage any further.
  • Towards the end, we surprisingly get one from Boss Dogranio of all people. Following the Patrangers and Lupinrangers defeating Destra, he asks that Gauche leave him be in his chamber. He then comments that Destra was one hell of a right-hand man while pouring two wine glasses for a farewell toast. Despite being the boss of an evil crime syndicate, it's tearjerking seeing how much he genuinely cared for those who worked for him, especially one so strong and loyal.

     #43: "The Man Who Returned"
  • It's finally revealed what made both Kogure and Noel so panicked when it came to Gauche's ability... It revealed that Noel is not Human after all. This revelation shocks the Lupins so much it greatly shatters their faith in him. By the time they have to fight the giant Gangler, the Lupins were absolutely pissed.
  • This pales in comparison of what Patrangers react based on Satoru's info. Being a Gangler spy all along. This revelation itself affects Keiichriou pretty hard due to fact regardless of what he's told, he always thought of Noel as a valuable ally, if a bit two-sided with the Lupinrangers, just hearing the possibility from that paralyzes Keiichirou in jumping into action, even having his VS changer taken by Satoru because he couldn't bring himself to shoot him for questioning.

     #44: "The Truth Found"
  • Noel's entire backstory: As a child, he lived as a street orphan, until Arsene Lupin himself found him and took him in, where he taught him about what would become the Lupin Collection, and how to modify it. One day the Ganglers stormed the cave where the Collection was stored where a now older Noel discovered the cave ruined, and Lupin dead. Hence why he's fighting alongside the Lupinrangers - he wants to bring someone close to him back: Arsene Lupin, the man who gave him a reason to live.
  • The Patrangers had it bad as well during this episode. It was revealed that Satoru is most likely dead, with the alternative being unadulterated Nightmare Fuel. Keiichirou and Tsukasa, obviously, did not take this very well and nearly go on a Roaring Rampage of Revenge on the Monster of the Week. In the end the Patrangers returned to the place where the monster was defeated, saluted Satoru and swore to take down the Ganglers. It may have been duty before this for them, but It's Personal now.
Keiichirou: Satoru... Watch over us. We'll get to the truth about what's going on, for your sake.

     #46: "An Inescapable Game"
  • While the Lupinrangers were trapped in a game, the Patrangers managed to deduce the identities of the Lupinrangers. Of course, the idealistic Sakuya is absolutely crushed at this revelation, not wanting to believe that his crush Umika is a Lupinranger. In the end of the episode, he begged for a chance to take the case himself if only to prove Umika's innocence. It wouldn't have been that sad if we didn't already know that Sakuya is going to have to swallow the bitter pill sooner or later.
    • Keiichirou may have it worse given the incident back in #37. Sakuya actually asks him if he opened himself to Kairi given the recent events. This causes a long pause between the two until Keiichirous replies that it's a separate matter from this. You can infer from his answer that the revelations will also hit him hard when he fully discovers it, especially when knowing it's because he's reminded of being like Kairi's brother, but as an officer of the law, the mission comes first.
    • Just the deduction that Keiichirou came up that the Lupinrangers had been Kairi, Tooma and Umika all along. Before this, starting from #8, they just heard rumours about their past but were not aware of the truth. This is true, particularly for Kairi and Touma. They thought Kairi still had his brother but just lived separately to be independent while Touma quit his job at his former restaurant because his fiance ditched him. Starting in #45, when Keiichirou accidentally saw Yano Shouri's name among the list of missing people from the mass disappearance and his connection with Kairi as siblings, he was the first to realise the hidden truth. Afterwards, he did his research properly with Jim and then explained it to everyone else based on what he knew. The speechless reactions of everyone else starting when Keiichirou mentioned Kairi's brother. From this revelation, they realised that they have been hurting Kairi's feelings all along without knowing about this.

     #47: "What Can I Do"
  • Defeated by Gauche, and not wanting to risk more civilian losses, Noel offers himself to be taken by her to Dogranio's mansion. He does this while also revealing his true origins to his teammates but still feels glad to have them given that they saved him for being another human being. Keiichirou, on the other hand, doesn't want him to go because he doesn't want him to die, yet Noel still goes on. And before you ask, he's not saying it in his usual demeanor, but one on the verge of a mental breakdown. Seeing the resident Hot-Blooded No Indoor Voice hero being on the verge of an emotional breakdown is heartwrenching to the core. Just look at his face. It really tells how much he has grown to care for Noel...and how it breaks his heart to see him potentially die.
  • Similar to how Noel's revelation affected the Lupinrangers behavior in #43, we also see how Noel surrendering affected the Patrarangers. Even after destroying the Golam, they don't end with their usual catchphrase, which worries Goodie, and from the looks of it, he won't take it too well.
  • The Lupinrangers on the other hand managed to snag another shot at Zamigo... however it doesn't go as well as they hoped. Given a new safe by Gauche with a piece that allows him to liquefy himself, basically making him immune to most shots, the Lupinrangers try everything they can to pry open his new safe, but to no avail as they find out he was just playing with them and he leaves just like that. Another shot at ending it all, goes away again... and they don't even know about Noel's sacrifice for the Patrangers. The episode ends with both teams crushed.

#48: "The Face Beneath the Mask"
  • What we said in #46 really did come to fruition. The thieves had to reveal their identities, and as expected, Sakuya is absolutely devastated with the reveal that his crush is a phantom thief. Throughout the episode, he loses every bits of his cheerfulness he previously had and in the end of the episode, all he could do was just to cry at the reveal.
  • The way Gauche dies - as she calls upon one of her experiments, Dogranio forcibly takes away all of the Collection pieces she and her experiment had, and essentially left her to die. As a final moment of desperation, she forcibly tears off her own Gold Safe, and plants it in the experiment, and finally dies screaming. Her experiment ends up dying at the hands of the Lupinrangers, even with a Gold Safe, making Gauche's sacrifice All for Nothing.

     #49: "As A Thief, As A Polieceman"
  • The aftermath of the reveal shows one thing about Keiichiro, after knowing everything and putting the pieces together, he doesn't like what he finds out. When confronted by Kairi, he doesn't get angry, he gets depressed and desperate. He didn't realize that Kairi was suffering behind that mask and at this point he is willing to do whatever it takes to help him, as he knows that if he leaves him alone, he might run off to his death. So much so that he's willing to turn in his badge to save Kairi, but Dogranio's return prevents him from chasing after him. With encouragement from his long time rival, he instead joins the Patrangers in stopping Dogranio, knowing he may never see Kairi again.
    • What's poignant about the line where he's willing to turn in his badge isn't just that he's willing to support Kairi all the way, after failing to save Noel and finding out about the Lupinrangers' past and their suffering, he feels like he failed as a police officer. While he was saving the people he could save, there were four individuals who were suffering right next to him. He's just that passionate about saving lives that when he doesn't help those that are closest to him, he realizes he never knew what was going on and is willing to set all of that aside to make it right.
  • When Kairi finds out about how the Gangler procure their disguises, he becomes more and more desperate. When the Lupinrangers are injured by Dogranio and Umika and Touma are captured, Kairi decides to fight Zamigo by himself. Even when Keiichiro offers his help, Dogranio comes back. To that end, he basically tells Keiichiro that they each have a role they must fulfill, his fight to get his loved ones back against Zamigo, and Keiichiro's fight to save the world. While he more than appreciates the help, whether or not they're on the same side, their fates prevent the two from truly working together, even though he knows he's basically walking to his death at this point.
  • Sakuya's furious at Noel thinking his many attempts at forcing the two teams to mingle, and supporting his crush on Umika despite knowing full well they were the thieves the whole time was Noel's idea of a sick joke. Noel can only apologize that he truly did believe both groups could become great friends and he really was trying to figure out a way for the Patrangers to find out without hurting everyone's feelings but didn't manage to do so before everything fell apart.

     #50: "Forevermore Adieu"
  • For the Lupinrangers, this episode was the culmination of two years worth of fulfilling what's basically been a suicide mission. They've finally defeated Zamigo and all of their loved ones and everyone that he froze have returned. But there's a catch, to defeat Zamigo, they had to follow him into Dogranio's safe which, from what we know, cannot be opened. They are now trapped his safe until Dogranio decides to open it, which was rare to begin with, or he is killed, which as we know with the previous Gangler safes will destroy its contents inside.
  • At this point, the Patrangers and the Global Police have attempted to put the Lupinrangers under custody to prevent them from going out there and getting themselves killed. However they know the cannot stop them, even if they tried. Thus when Zamigo went into Dogranio's safe, before leaping in after him, the Lupinrangers surrender their pieces of the Lupin Collection to help give them a chance, and as we see above, because they may not be able to escape once they get in, and they already have to take the Patrangers' Trigger Machines with them. Keiichiro especially feels torn up about it. Once they get the word that everyone's returned, they realized that Zamigo has been defeated, but now the Lupinrangers are trapped, and they now have to make a decision which may cost the Phantom Thieves their lives.

     #51: "I'm Sure I'll See You Again"
  • The Patrangers's hesitation to eliminate Dogranio, despite Hilltop's order to take him down and his assurance that he'll take responsibility for what happens. Despite them face-to-face against the head of the Ganglers, there are still people inside his safe. You can hear Keiichirou downright breaking down in tears as he approaches Dogranio, and Sakuya calling out to the former. Even while the people inside Dogranio's safe are the thieves, they still care for them.
    • As awesome as it is having the Phantom Thieves assisting Patrangers from inside the safe by transporting the collection, the fact that they even gave their transformation items and arsenals as well meant that they had completely give up to get out from the safe since they failed to find an exit. You can see how shock Kogure was when he saw the VS Changer and Dial Fighter were also returned.
  • We also get to see the Lupinrangers finally reuniting with their respective loved ones. Kairi's reunion with Shouri left viewers with a stronger impression compared to Touma with Aya and Umika with Shiho. It's not hard to cry when you see them reunited. For three years away with Parting-Words Regret, Kairi finally apologises to Shouri for acting cold against him. What adds it more was Kairi shedding tears, which we never saw in any episodes, including the flashbacks, meaning he was only acting tough and bottled them up.
