I'm sorry. I'm so sorry you hurt yourself.

  • Anyone who's ever had parents that divorced can immediately sympathize with Rose as the beginning of the game starts with the sad moment of a little girl watching her parents argue and talk of divorcing.
  • The Death of Cutie. From start to finish, this entire sequence of events is nothing short of heartwrenching.
    • To start, Cody and May meet Cutie, who despite being built up for the past hour of gameplay as the queen, is amazingly friendly and humble, eagerly willing to be friends with anyone and even offers cookies and a hug to Cody. So the idea that they have to kill such an innocent character is nothing short of horrifying.
    • When May lets it slip what she and Cody plan to do, Cutie runs away in horror only to have her escape shuttle brought down into a claw machine, then pulled back out and getting her leg stuck in the door. Cody and May get her out by pulling on her ears so hard that her leg gets ripped off. It's not even played for laughs just because Cutie is a stuffed animal, she reacts in pain and horror just like anyone would getting a limb torn off.
    • After that, Cody and May start dragging her towards the edge of the bookshelf, all the while Cutie is crying out for Rose's help and trying her best to get away. It's actually really messed up to watch because it's played so realistically akin to two murderers dragging away a victim.
    • Cutie tries to grab onto a nearby needle to get away, but it accidentally knocks over other sewing stuff down, launching a sewing tool into the air and landing pointed side down right onto her ear. Despite yelling in pain over being stuck, Cody and May keep pulling Cutie to the point her ear gets ripped off. It's even more traumatizing at this point as Cutie cries that everything is getting fuzzy for her. Which is akin to what happens to a person when they're losing too much blood.
    • Cody and May get Cutie over to the edge of the bookshelf as she just barely manages to grab on. Despite everything they did to her, Cutie still tries to convince the two of them to stop and how much she loves Rose. But it finally ends with the two of them succeeding and finally making Cutie fall off screaming to her death.
Cutie: You don't have to do this to me! I love Rose!
    • The worst part about all of this? Cutie's speech and mannerisms make it clear that she's just a kid. So the horror and confusion and pain she goes through is all the more horrible when you realize that this was basically a protracted and torturous murder of a little girl.
    • Finally, Rose seeing Cutie fall onto the floor in pieces and her reaction to seeing her favorite toy broken and there's nothing she can do to fix it, leading her to cry over it. At this point, even if you're willing to brush off the entire scene because Cutie was just a stuffed animal the whole time, it's still all about parents trying to make their own daughter cry. It's no wonder so many people instantly lose all sympathy for Cody and May at this point of the game; to the extent some consider it outright to be their Moral Event Horizon.
  • When May gets stage fright, she is given this simple piece of advice that is both tear-jerking and heartwarming. "You weren't born to be perfect, you were born to be ''you'."
  • The letter that Rose wrote seems cute and makes the player assume that her way of fixing her parents' marital problems was through Dr. Hakim...until it reveals that she's actually blaming herself for her parents hating each other over things like not brushing her teeth or wanting more bedtime stories. Thus she ultimately decides that she'll run away from home in the hopes that it'll make them "friends again". The way she reassures them that she's fine ("I have pocket money for a bus ticket, and a sandwich and a lollipop") does not help.
