As this is a Tear Jerker Moments page, all spoilers will be unmarked. You Have Been Warned!

  • Mike's whole situation is this: he has severe PTSD from watching his younger brother, Garrett, get kidnapped — at the age of twelve no less. throughout the film, he's desperately trying to figure out what happened to his brother and who the kidnapper is, all while making ends meet for the sake of his sister, Abby (whom his cruel aunt is trying to take custody for no reason other than getting monthly checks from the government).
  • Even though Max turns out to be The Mole for Aunt Jane, she shows signs of regretting it during the Freddy's break-in. However, she gets killed by Freddy before she can complete her Heel–Face Turn.
  • The scene where the animatronics build a fort out of tables may hit like this for some. Despite its heartwarming and funny theme, it also serves as a painful reminder that these are children who had their lives cut short by a sociopathic killer. This was something that could be overlooked in the games, but here it's harder to ignore.
  • Abby, after being assured by Mike he won't give her up to Aunt Jane, is naturally distraught and outraged to see that he is reconsidering, punctuated by her scribbling Mike's face out of the drawings she has up in her room. What makes this worse is that if William had succeeded in his plan, this would have been the last time Mike saw her.
Abby: No...I hate you! Hate you, Mike!
  • Vanessa's situation is both nightmare-inducing and tear-jerking. She was raised by a violent, abusive serial killer and knows that the animatronics in the pizzeria are the ghosts of her father's child victims (who may well have been her friends). She's absolutely terrified by the mere suggestion that she return to the building when there's even a chance that her father might be there.
    • When Afton stabs her, all she can say is a quiet, bewildered "Dad?". Even after all of the abuse, even after knowing what he is, even after her constant terror, she still can't believe he would kill his own child.
    • For a fraction of a second, William looks remorseful, as if even he can't believe what he's done. Then, in the blink of an eye, it's gone — along with the last shred of his humanity.
  • After Mike saves Abby from being shoved into a springlock suit, the poor girl is nearly in tears and is confused as to why Chica tried to kill her.
"I don't know what's wrong with her! I don't know why she was trying to hurt me..."
