These villains ain't smart

  • If the springlocks are known to malfunction, why doesn't Afton tear out the springlocks out of the yellow rabbit suit so he can safely wear it?
    • Building off this, if he goes to the pizzeria frequently enough that he needs to keep the suit outside of it, that makes even more reason to modify it to be safe.
      • Because the springlocks aren't the dangerous parts themselves. They're what hold those parts back. They are literally locks that keep the animatronic parts of a springlock suit out of the way for a human to fit. If you remove the springlocks, you just have a regular animatronic suit. And we've known that a human can't safely put on one of the animatronic suits since the very first game.
      • Clarification: Why doesn't Afton remove all the animatronic parts period? Would it be too time-consuming? Would it destroy the suit? (I messed up and said springlocks instead of animatronic parts and it's too late to change it back now, whoops)
      • The movie seems to imply that the animatronic parts of the springlock costumes help enhance the human wearer's strength as well. Hence why Afton's able to throw Mike and Vanessa around like ragdolls without breaking a sweat. The Springlock suit also seems to be sturdy enough to be bullet proof, as he very quickly shrugs off Vanessa shooting him point blank in the arm, something a fabric suit likely wouldn't be able to do. If he's also having to get rid of adults getting too close to finding out his crimes, who could be in possession of weapons, that'd all be protection and strength he'd very much want to continue to have.
      • Supporting this is how a closeup shows the suit's gloves have armored knuckles on it.
      • Afton likely had been out of practice for years: assuming that he had since just offered people work at Freddy's and never returned to perform the murders himself. Even then, since he was obviously familiar with the suit, he would know how to maneuver one the only bump being that he could not have anticipated Abby figuring out what made the other animatronics loyal to him before it was too late.
    • It's also possible that the springlock suits might not be common knowledge or very documented in this universe. If police investigate, they probably won't think of searching for DNA samples inside the Yellow Rabbit because they think it's a robot, not a suit. Supporting this is how they apparently never thought to check for the missing children's bodies inside the animatronics.

Whatever did happen to Garrett?

  • How come Garrett isn't one of the ghost children haunting the animatronics?
    • I assume he wasn't stuffed inside an animatronic like the others.
    • Or he's in a different animatronic at another location (sequel hook?).
    • I started thinking he was Mr. Cupcake.
    • or BB.
    • Considering the similar backstory elements and the music used in The Stinger, it seems implied that Garrett might have become this universe's version of the Puppet.
  • After this troper heard Lillard's annecdote about being unable to see out of the suit, this troper can't stop thinking: how would William see out of the suit? It's clear The Yellow Rabbit's eyes are not Afton's, they should have blocked his vision entirely. Or is Afton psychic?

Way to bury the lede, Mike!

  • How was Mike able to retain custody of Abby knowing that the one person who was trying to take her away was murdered in their home? The circumstances of Aunt Jane's death would look extremely suspicious to anybody investigating, and the only people who could corroborate Mike's location during the murder are either comatose or dead.
    • Given the Non-Standard Game Over nature of Golden Freddy in the first game, if she's even dead, it could easily be written off as a heart attack.
    • There are two pieces of evidence that could refute this: security/police cam footage showing that Mike was being patched up by Vanessa at the time of the murder, and an eyewitness account from the taxi driver that Abby and someone in a weird bear costume asked for a ride to Freddy's soon after. Mike and Abby (and maybe Vanessa if she was still conscious when they got to the hospital) could spin a story about a "serial killer" dressed in costume killing the aunt and luring Abby to the pizzeria and that Mike and Vanessa got hurt fighting them off.
      • They could also add that they saw the bodies of the other missing people in there (the gang who broke in to wreck the place) so the "serial killer" must have gotten them too, but the place is falling apart and probably too unstable to investigate. Actually, if they got the lawyer in on it he could confirm that Aunt Jane hired the missing people to break in and wreck Freddy's, and that was the last anyone saw of them, and the police would probably conclude that the "serial killer" must have got them.
    • That's not really far off from what actually happened

Free taxis for kids?

  • Did Abby and Golden Freddy even pay for that taxi ride?
    • Odds are the cabbie was just relieved to be alive after dropping them off. Would you try to insist to a 7-foot-tall robot bear that he should pay the fare at the risk of getting crushed by robot paws?

About Mr. Cupcake

  • Is the cupcake alive on its own, or is Chica controlling it?
    • It's ambiguous, maybe more because Mr. Cupcake ain't possessed by a kid.

Having more kids?

  • Why would Mike, Garrett, and Abby's parents have another child after one of them was kidnapped and murdered? Especially after what seems like a decade.
    • Abby may have been intended to be a Replacement Goldfish for Garret. Especially if the two of them were starting to have marital problems.
      • As weird as may sound, some families might think the best course of action is to, well, "carry on" as best as they can, and that may include having more kids
    • There is no legal or moral rules stating that parents who lost a child can't get another one, and everyone handles trauma in their own way.

Why didn't Vanessa report?

  • Why did Vanessa NEVER report her father after all these years? She clearly feels awful about what he's done. Was there no possible avenue for her to report him, not even anonymously?
    • William might've been so controlling of her that she held off for years until she finally toughened up, i guess.
      • Trauma bonding

Golden Freddy being the leader

  • What makes Golden Freddy the leader of the group in this continuity? In the games it's accepted due to the long history with Fredbear, but also debated that The Puppet gets the title due to being the one who brought everyone alive. Assuming the film is standalone without any potential follow-up movies to back it up.

Blaming Mike

  • Why would Mike be blamed for Jeff and his gang breaking into the restaurant during the day when Mike isn’t even working?
    • Mike was the last guard on shift. If he failed to properly secure the place when he leaves, he'd be responsible for what happens before the day guard (while there isn't) arrives.

What a waste of coins, y'all.

  • Why were there still coins in the arcade machines? Why didn’t the people in charge of the restaurant collect them before shutting the place down?
    • Those coins were likely just tokens manufactured for that arcade. A lot of arcades in the 80s and 90s used them and they would not have any value as money except maybe as collector's items (which nobody would've thought about when the place was shutting down). They weren't something valuable like quarters.

The diner collapses.

  • Why did the pizzeria start collapsing after Willy the Angry Rabbit Killer was being springtrapped the FUCK out?
    • The implication that at least I got was that Golden Freddy's spirit is the one controlling the various supernatural aspects of the building, such as the doors opening, closing, and holding shut on their own. I believe this is the case as when Golden Freddy brings Abby to the pizzeria, he vanishes and then the lights around the entrance to the dining room instantly glow brighter as she walks through. The pizzeria's collapse in the climax is caused by an overload in the electricity, most likely the Yellow Bear's doing to seal off the Yellow Rabbit from the outside world.

Aunt Jane wants Abby for the government stipend...

  • The government stipend is a whopping $250 a month. Even if you're the most negligent parent possible, simply keeping a child alive will cost WAY more than that. In addition, she's willing to hire a lawyer and several goons and COMMIT MURDER all for a sum that would enable her to buy... 3/4ths of a Nintendo Switch.
    • It's worth noting that $250 in 2000 would equal ~$460 today, so it's a little more enticing but not a whole lot. The movie novelization also mentions a trust fund set up for Abby which might be for a significant amount (to my knowledge it's not specified) that Mike states Jane is after. If that detail had made it into the movie, Jane's motivation would have made more sense.
      • That introduces another plothole where, if Abby has a trust fund set up for her that Aunt Jane wants to exploit... why is Mike so hard up for cash and a job? If the trust fund is purely for Abby when she comes of age, it's not like she'll share that money with Aunt Jane anyway, and if it's for her well-being and growth, then why isn't Mike using some of that money to hire a babysitter?
      • Bureaucracy being as unhelpful as possible. Possibly a combination of being only for Abby when she's an adult AND being completely inaccesible until then no matter the reason for security purposes.
