Tear Jerker / Alice Cooper

Go To

  • "Jackknife Johnny" and "Only Women Bleed."
  • "I Never Cry" and "Pass the Gun Around" both address the singer's alcoholism, the former as it was beginning to spiral out of control, and the latter the last song on the last album he recorded before getting sober for good. Probably the two most personal songs in his entire catalog.
  • On his radio show, he mentions how prior to her death he had no idea Janis Joplin had been doing heroin, and had he known he would have staged an intervention. It's clear he regrets not noticing since she would later die of an overdose.
  • The ending to "Alma Mater," where the singer is at first happy to finally drop out of school, but as the music begins to Fade Out, the farewells to his buddies start to sound less excited and more regretful, like he's realizing he made the wrong choice and it's too late to go back.
"Maybe I'll see you around sometime, huh? Hey, don't make a stranger of yourself, huh? Remember the Coop, huh? ...I hope— I hope you don't... forget me, or nothin'. Goodbye..."
  • "How You Gonna See Me Now" is a deeply personal, heartbreaking song from Alice to his wife when he was getting ready to come back home from his stay in an institution to kick his alcoholism.
How you gonna see me now?
Please don't see me ugly, babe
'Cause I know I let you down in oh so many ways
How you gonna see me now
Since we've been on our own?
Are you gonna love the man when the man gets home?
