The game has plenty of references.
- An obtainable item is the Frantic Frigate, which acts as a Global Airship to perform movement around the world map.
- The Zombie Horde's first upgrade is "The Walking Dead".
- Blue Specter's unlockable skills are lyrics from Eiffel 65's "Blue (Da Ba Dee)"- "Blue Inside", "Blue Outside", and "Dabadee".
- Pretty much all of the Swarm of Bats' unlockable skills are references to Batman franchise like "POW", "BAM KABOOM", and "NANANANANANA".
- The Flying Squid's bears some resemblance to the Flying Spaghetti Monster, and one of its skills is even named "Pastafury".
- The Tomb King's abilities are "Spelunker's Demise", "Tomb Rider Raiding", "Ark Hiding", and "Joffrey was the best".
- Bob's Halloween 2016 disguise is Bob Ross.
- The Christmas 2016 event has Bob imitating the Grinch on the loading screen, the event is even named "Bob stole Xmas".
- The Black Lich has a lot of references in his forge lines, including "Power overwhelming" and "We need focus", "Whaddaya buyin?", "The goggles! They do nothing!"...
- The Flavor Text for the Passports item is "Glory to Goodlandia".
- The Spectre Genie code is made up of two adjectives followed by an animal, in CamelCase without spacings (e.g. SassyOutrageousLion). One of the devs is definitely a fan of Rimworld, since two of the possible animal types are "Boomrat" and "Boomalope"
- If you try to get the "purchasable" ludicrous pack, the ensuing messages talk about Undertale and Mother 3/Earthbound for a while.
- The 2017 Easter event has you destroy houses to hunt for Easter Eggs... which resemble Xenomorph eggs.
- The first Chest Guardian of Recon Site is "The Xeno" and it's essentially a Xenomorph Xerox... but with the face of those cute green aliens.
- The second Chest Guardian of Recon Site is "The Hunter" and it's essentially a Predator... and also has the face of those cute green aliens.
- The third Chest Guardian of Recon Site is "The Red Shirt" and it's one of those cute green aliens wearing the same red shirt from the Star Trek franchise and wielding a Klingon weapon.
- The description for the Chaos Resort has well, this:
- It's no Izalith, but it'll do. A more comfortable demon offers more lucrative deals.
- The Flavor Text for the Rubbish itemnote is extremely similar to that of the Rubbish item from Dark Souls/Dark Souls 3note .
- When leveled up, the Giant Zombie might say "SOMEbody Once...", the Big Plague uses motivational poster quotes ("I rejoice in my capabilities" "My best teacher is my last mistake" "My feelings are relevant"), while the Flying Squid will sometimes spout "NOTICE ME SENPAI!"
- There's a language option that turns all the game's language, and subsequently text into "Hodor"
- The abort button for boss fights used to read "Surrender", now it might read "I'll be back", "Get to the Frigate!" or "Fly, you fools!"
- The Challenge boss to obtain the Durahell Batteries for the Arcane forge is the Durahell Bunny — a huge blue cyborg Duracell/Energizer Bunny expy.
- The three parts that can be modified per the Fun with Surgery update are the Brain, Heart, and Toe. The toe is a nod to another wizard with a magical toe, Magical Trevor.
