Considering Solar Wind is a modern-day story about a bunch of teenagers, it has a good few pop culture references. Since the power of music is a recurring theme throughout the work, many of these are to various music artists and songs. For example:

- Frank Ocean's song "Nights" is used in the Chapter 5 interlude.
- Act 1 contains numerous references to Electric Light Orchestra, and specifically their song "Mr. Blue Sky." It's fitting, considering the story's subject material.
