Shout Out / House Flipper

Go To

  • The Huckster's House is a direct recreation of Walter White's house from Breaking Bad. There's a pizza on the roof of the garage, a teddy bear floating face down in the swimming pool, and "Hamburgerberg" spray painted on the wall of the living room as a tongue-in-cheek reference to White's alias Heisenberg. Bashing the front door of the house with your sledgehammer even gets an achievement, "Knock, Knock" with the description "I am the one who knocks." referencing the memetic line from the show.
  • Alone Home is a recreation of the house from Home Alone, complete with all of Kevin McAllister's traps which naturally need to be cleaned up before reselling the house.
  • The Halloween update added Samarta Myers' House which gives several different shout-outs.
    • The name Myers is of course a reference to the Halloween franchise. Michael himself makes a cameo appearance, watching the house from across the street outside and changing position whenever the player looks away.
    • There is a flickering television inside which occasionally flashes an image of The Ring. The name Samarta is also a reference to Samara, antagonist Sadako's Dub Name Change from the American films.
    • The mask from Scream can be seen hanging on the wall over the fireplace.
    • Said mask changes its expression whenever the player looks away from it, and one of the possible expressions is the goofy "stoned" mask from Scary Movie.
    • Francisco de Goya's paintings Saturn Devouring His Son (see here and Two Old Ones Eating Soup can both be found in the basement.
  • Attempting to sell an item that you're not supposed to sell on one of the minor jobs sometimes gets the message "We're not playing Thief Simulator." Thief Simulator was published by Playway S.A., who also co-published this game.
  • Vincent van Gogh's The Starry Night can be found in a hidden room in one of the houses.
  • The achievement for selling to Gorgio Shanua the first time is "I'm Belieber".
  • The Steam achievement for using each tool from the Garden Flipper DLC is "Call me Edward". The icon is even a picture of the eponymous character's hand.
  • There's an achievement for buying the Wooden Pedro Windmill and then attempting to hit it with a sledgehammer. That achievement: "Don Quixote".
  • The Turtle House is basically the Kame House from Dragon Ball in all but name.
  • And for the 2nd Halloween updates: The Dracula Castle! It's a pretty specific shoutout to Dracula, specifically the book. There's even a guest room full of mysterious stains that looks perfect for lost travelers, or perhaps even a solicitor?
  • For April Fool's Day 2022, the devs added the apartments from Friends as flippable properties, complete with decor and furniture closely matching that from the show.
  • The "Two in One" job in Luxury Flipper is a reference to the movie Pretty Woman. The client and his girlfriend bear a distinct resemblance to Richard Gere and Julia Roberts.
  • The "Business as Usual" job is a reference to Fifty Shades of Grey; the client is named "Christopher Gray", he mentions in the voiced intro that his helicopter is waiting for him, and he also comments that he expects your...discretion when it comes to the...special changes he wants for one room in particular. He wants the room outfitted with a gaming PC, consoles, and other accoutrements of a hardcore gamer, as opposed to being into other "hardcore" activities.
  • The apartment Room 404 lovingly recreates Room 302 from Silent Hill 4: The Room, complete with such details as the chains across the door and the red save point in the living room. It's also haunted in many of the same ways it was in the original game, and can be exorcised by candles, which are one of the most powerful tools Henry has at his disposal to ward off evil in SH4.
