Tooru Fujisawa really loves his shout-outs.

  • In Chapter 32, at the public bath, one of the patrons has hair styled like Astro Boy.
  • Kamata's towel has Ippo Makunouchi on it.
  • Eikichi mentions bringing Ultraman shampoo to baths when he was a kid.
  • In Chapter 35, Saejima smashes a "Mr. Kentucky" statue over Abe's head, likely a reference to the Curse of the Colonel (though that was in Osaka, not Shonan).
  • In Chapter 76, Abe compares Minamino-sensei's bald head to Shazzan.
  • In the same chapter, Minamino says his "ultimate technique" is "the one from Fist of the North Star", and Kenshiro's star markings appear on his chest.
  • In Chapter 79, Eikichi compares Ryuji to the manga Ai To Makoto by Ikki Kajiwara.
  • In Chapter 85, a couple of delinquents draw on Saegusa's face and joke that he looks like Tensai Bakabon's Papa.
  • In Chapter 107, Makoto imagines Samehara, a guy who threatened him, as a Parasyte opening up its face to eat him.
  • In Chapter 108, Kamata says Moro has been "reading too much AKIRA", after they found out Kiyoma only had very limited Psychic Powers.
  • In Chapter 115, Saejima describes Ryuji's hair as like "think Devil Man with a razor". The guy he's talking to then points at someone identical to Devilman.
  • In Chapter 138, upon seeing the destruction Natsu caused in a bar, someone asks if Godzilla came in for a drink.
  • In Chapter 150, Eikichi of all people is watching Sailor Moon R: The Movie. Later on Kiwamezawa, a giant guy even more scary-looking than Saejima, is also into the show.
  • In Chapter 154, Kamata plays the Ben E. King song "Stand By Me" at Natsu's sister Fuyuka's grave after Natsu is killed.
  • Chapter 158 is full of references. Aside from the previously mentioned Sailor Moon:
  • In Chapter 164, people skeptical of the "demon" Yagyo Atsuki's existence mention fictional characters like Momotarō and Doraemon.
  • In Chapter 165, Ryuji calls Eikichi "the real Onigoro".
  • Eikichi dismisses Atsushi's report of zombie-like followers of Yagyo Atsuki by comparing them to John Carpenter's The Fog (1980).
  • In Chapter 172, after Ryuji asks how he figured out what was in Tamaru's grandfather's suitcase, Eikichi says "You can call me Kindaichi."
  • In Chapter 177, Hinoken threatens to make Katsuyuki's lips look like Little Ghost Q-Taro's. He also calls Katsuyuki's heavily modded bike a "Space Battleship Bike". Katsuyuki shoots back, calling Hinoken's bike his "Ultra Hawk No. 1".
  • In Chapter 179, someone compares the fighting Eikichi and Ryuji to Sanda and Gaira.
  • In Chapter 190, when Saejima is lamenting how his Face of a Thug scares even his own family, Kiwamezawa mentions the suffering faced by Candy and Cutey Honey. When they visit his family, it turns out one of Usagi's siblings is called Chibiusa.
  • In Chapter 192, Ryuji almost elbows someone who snuck up behind him in the face, who asks if he's Golgo.
  • In Chapter 206, Eikichi taunts Saejima, the "Kamakura Mad Dog", by calling him Lassie.
  • In Chapter 214, Ryuji compares his basketball shot to Michael Jordan, who had just returned to the sport from baseball.
  • In Chapter 226:
    • Mafuyu is building a Rick Dom plastic model in the background.
    • Makoto asks Pokkuri-san who the strongest man in Shonan is, and gets the answer Ohwada Baku (an actor).
    • Eikichi is reading The Kindaichi Case Files, which he calls "serious intellectual reading". Also, the chapter itself is titled "The Onizuka Case Files".
  • In Chapter 230, someone asks a Night-Vision Goggles-wearing Eikichi if he's from Berserk.
  • In Chapter 232, Katsuyuki calls the Oni-Baku "our Double Dragons", calling Tamura Abobo, the name of a villain in the game. Nakajo later calls himself "the samurai Momotarō".
  • When Ryuji's deception is discovered, Nakajo asks what he's doing. Ryuji nervously says "Imitating a Guntank".
  • When Ryuji declares he's going to start his own gang and take over the country without Eikichi, Eikichi grumbles that "This isn't Nobunaga's Ambition."
  • Chapter 238:
    • Nao Kadena catches Eikichi hiding in her room, pretending to be a coat. She asks him if he thinks he's Ninja Hattori.
    • She says he can "join them up in heaven, singing Hymn 13", and he thinks "The song to summon Golgo 13?
    • Mariko catches Ryuji sneaking around on the outside of the building, and asks if he's "the friendly neighborhood Spider-Man". A few chapters later, Shinomi asks a similar question to Eikichi when she catches him sneaking into her room via the 12th-floor window.
  • In Chapter 240, Ryuji compares Nao to Miss Machiko.
  • Nao Kadena's "Purple Haze" gang is a reference to the Jimi Hendrix song of the same name.
  • Chapter 243: Mafuyu has a bag full of Cutey Honey Flash tapes.
  • Chapter 244:
    • Eikichi lies about being a TV producer who knows the boy band SMAP.
    • The woman he's on the phone with says she looks like Anne from Ultra Guardnote . She actually looks like a Zarab alien from the same series. The next caller he gets claims to look like Akiko Fuji, but he asks if she looks like a Dada alien. She turns out to look like the alien Jamila.
    • After giving up, he answers with "This is Onihei Hankachou".
  • Even more Ultraman references in Chapter 245: Eikichi does impressions of Baltan, Kanegon, Pigmon, Billia, Chibull, Wyann, Bullton, Metron, and Takkong to make Misato laugh.
  • In Chapter 246 Ryuji and Fumiya are playing Battle Arena Toshinden.
  • The porn shop in Chapter 246 has a sign saying "Rei Ayanami's first adult video!"note 
  • When Eikichi is bitten on his hands and face by piranhas, he says it's a Mito Komon impression, with the fish on his chin presumably serving as the character's distinctive beard.
  • In Chapter 250, Eikichi steals an emblem off a Ferrari, and Ryuji catches him, asking if he "thinks he can act like some random Ulfuls member".
  • The Love Hotel Ryuji and Nagisa go to in Chapter 257 has a Kikaider themed room, though they don't pick that one.
  • In Chapter 260, the Oni-Baku's new neighbor gives them a huge live crab as a gift. They compare it to the famous mechanical crab from the Kani Doraku restaurant in Osaka.
  • In Chapter 261, the video store has a sign mentioning Die Hard is available to rent. The chapter is called Mission: Impossible, and the series is name-dropped by Eikichi when talking to Tsukai.
  • In Chapter 264, Eikichi suggests deciding who the top dog in Shonan is with a game of Tekken 2.
