- "The Outcasts" subplot starting from the VII parody ends with "The Outcasts Will Return", parodying the Marvel Cinematic Universe. X even ends with "Gilgamesh Will Return".

- Dagger tries pulling the infamous "Say what again" line from Pulp Fiction on Steiner, daring him to call her princess while she's armed with a gun. He doesn't get it and she has to explain the reference to him.
- Regent Cid's frog transformation gives him the appearance and voice of Kermit the Frog.
- The one nobleman not impressed by Zidane and Blank's performance says they insist on themselves, which is what Peter Griffin says about The Godfather.

- Before the X parody aired, a parody of the "Steamed Hams" short from The Simpsons aired, featuring Seymour, Grand Maester Mika, and Vaan. Later in the actual episode, he pulls the "My planet needs me" stunt. Yuna points out what they're ripping off. Later, the "Steamed Hams" parody returns, but Yuna quickly puts a stop to it.
- When Wakka introduces himself, Tidus asks him if he's Jake the Dog from Adventure Time. Wakka retorts by asking him if he's Ratchet from Ratchet & Clank.
- The infamous hair gag from There's Something About Mary is used to explain Wakka's hairstyle. As well as Seymour's.

- At some point in the XIII Nutshell, Sazh is depicted as Samuel L. Jackson as he appears in Pulp Fiction. Hope is depicted right afterwards as Phineas.
- When Vanille is moaning while summoning Hecatoncheir, a woman nearby says "I'll have what she's having."
- At the end of XIII, Squall and Warrior arrive, though now Warrior's more like Rick Sanchez in being a drunken mess.
