Shout Out / A Red Rose in the Blue Wind

There's a couple of references to other series in here, as well as other of the author's fanfics.

  • Much like Code Prime, the introductory battle takes place in space, complete with a portal that sucks the entire space fleet (and the Sonic characters) in.
    • Harriet is urged by Clover to retreat, but she insists, telling that she can still catch Sonic despite reaching her limit. Thankfully, unlike Jeremiah from the author's previous work, she does get back, albeit exhausted.
    • In general, Sonic, Knuckles, and Shadow acquire weapons based on their incarnations in Sonic and the Black Knight, based on Arthurian Legend. This is reminiscent of the Britannian Empire's similarly-themed Knights of the Round.
  • Sonic calls a Nevermore "Tweety" as it misses its strike.
  • This isn't the first Sonic/RWBY fanfic that begins in space over Mobius and an Eggman scheme that sees Sonic get involved; that would be Rose Red, Hedgehog Blue, where the travel to Remnant is by Sonic X-esque massive Chaos Control involving nine Mobians total (the seven who fought Eggman here, plus Silver and Blaze). RRHB also has the Mobians reach Beacon and crash-land (in RRHB they crash-land directly at Beacon due to the Chaos Control in a group while here Sonic is first there after landing elsewhere separate from the others), plus Sonic taking up a sword in connection to Sonic and the Black Knight (here Sonic names his sword "Caliburn" after the sword he used in Black Knight while in RRHB Sonic's sword is a Tails design with Tails admitting he believed Sonic's story about the Black Knight adventure (which Amy didn't)).
  • When seeing the Grimm for the first time, Cubot's fearful response to them is much like that one time Mr. Krabs found himself facing an army of living skeletons.
Cubot: I've seen this on the late show! They're gonna hold us down and take turns nibbling on our innards! Then they're gonna eat our brains and leave our bodies for the buzzards!
  • Shadow callously remarks Jaune's swordsmanship technique, akin to a kid swatting a baseball bat. That's literally how Anna's "swordsmanship" was described in Frozen Turtles.
  • Shadow shoves Weiss an envelope containing pictures of the atrocities committed by humans against Faunus, an act that draws a rather negative reaction from the heiress. It's similar to the scene in Code Prime where Cornelia is presented with pictures of brutal deaths against the Elevens carried out by Airachnid.
  • The Egg Cerberus seemingly launches a fire, ice, and lightning beam at the same time, effectively using Tri Attack.
  • In both Worlds Collide (TMNT) and Code Prime, the Ninja Turtles and the Autobots (specifically Bulkhead) are unfazed by the arrival of a certain villain who seemingly has a strong disposition against the heroes, (Azula and Cornelia, respectively). This is echoed with the lines "He/She/They've never fought us before!". Here, it's applied again, though in a villainous variant.
Salem: Sonic the Hedgehog has faced and defeated many powerful adversaries in the past...but he has never faced anything like me before.
  • During the food fight, Sonic slightly mopes about his trademark favorite food, chili dogs, not being present in the cafeteria, though chili dogs do exist in the new world. Michelangelo of Frozen Turtles was known to be distraught over the absence of pizza in Arendelle. The same could also be said of his 2003 incarnation's reaction in Worlds Collide (TMNT).
  • Per Word of God, Fifer and his brothers are based off the 'Three Little Pigs' fable, befitting Remnants fairy tale theme.
  • The heroes, trying to talk down Fifer, say that he needs to quit acting like he didn't have a choice, because he did. Kallen says this phrase to Suzaku during their time in Kamine Island as part of her "The Reason You Suck" Speech.
  • Sonic warns about the fact that despite their abilities, they can't always guarantee saving everyone, and, fearing that it may be too much for them, asks if they want out. At the end of Code Prime R1, Lelouch asks the rest of the Black Knights if they want to withdraw from the battle right after the Decepticons claim victory from their destruction of Britannia. And just like the Black Knights, all of the heroes decide to stay.
  • Shadow's High-Altitude Interrogation of Junior is an adaptation of Batman doing the same to Maroni, including intentionally dropping him from a height just great enough to break his legs.
  • After witnessing Cinder nearly get captured by Shadow and Omega and had the disk containing the virus destroyed, Metal Sonic interferes and uploads a backup of the virus, a nod to how in the J-WITCH Series, the team always has a backup copy of whatever cure or spell they need at the moment.
  • At the end of her fight with Neo, Rouge advises her to pay attention to the hands, not the mouth.
  • Omega makes a remark during the city battle how the strength of the weapon is nothing, and that the ability of the user is what matters. In Code Prime, Megatron says the same to Charles zi Britannia after the latter is defeated even when using the Excalibur, a Knightmare designed to defeat the Decepticon leader.
  • Scarlet wonders just what the Egg Rex is made of when her team and Team SSSN couldn't make a dent on it; a nod to Worlds Collide (TMNT) when Toph was wondering just what the Shredder's armor is made of when she tried to punch him.
  • A key lesson that Yang slowly learns throughout the fanfic is how she shouldn't always rely on her Semblance, taught by Knuckles. In the J-WITCH Series, the first lesson that Jackie and Uncle bestow onto the W.I.T.C.H. girls is also identical in that they shouldn't always rely on their powers as well. This is, coincidentally, a lesson that is taught over a basic session of how to punch, to which Knuckles and Yang specialize in.
  • Mimic's debut has him disguise himself as Ruby herself. His disguise as the character eerily reminds readers of the Mirror Universe version of Ruby in RWBY: Dark, especially given their penchant for sociopathy.
    • The Bioid which disguises itself as Adam Taurus stated that he was abandoned by the rest of the White Fang who followed Eggman's lead, even down to admitting that Blake was right. In Dark that's exactly what happened (in essence, the Blake of that fic assumes Adam's position as the more radical party in the resistance group).
  • Merlot calls the substance used to enhance the Grimm mutagen, a nod to TMNT and the author's earlier work.
  • One of Merlot's mutated Grimm is a Beringel covered in stone armor named Kong. It's essentially a rock-based Mechani-Kong.
  • Shadow's Rage as he attacked Mimic when he disguised himself as Maria is reminiscent to Mustang's when Envy disguised themselves as Hughes.
  • Pyrrha overhears Yang, Ruby, and Knuckles' conversation regarding Yang's Semblance, then tries to enter, stating that she heard the entire ordeal and gives her two cents about the situation. Code Prime features a similar scene where Guilford enters after Cornelia slaps Euphie and then gives his two cents regarding his loyalty to Britannia.
  • Mimic's scene in The Vytal Festival, of trying to mess with his guard by shape-shifting into General Ironwood and Ruby, and then threatening to kill his guard when he gets out is just like Mystique and her guard in X-Men: The Last Stand.
  • Sonic's disbelief that Clover's luck-based Semblance is a superpower that he could use is reminiscent of Deadpool's argument about Domino's similar ability.
