Ship Tease / My Little Pony: Friendship Is Magic

Go To

Despite the theme of My Little Pony: Friendship Is Magic being, well, friendship, it does have a number of these moments.

The show

  • The episode "Secret of My Excess" was basically one big Spike/Rarity tease. In the next episode where they're actually shown togethernote , ''Dragon Quest'', Rarity is extremely affectionate towards Spike. It should be noted that this is the only case in which one of the parties involved (Spike) is canonically in love with the other.
  • The episode "Keep Calm and Flutter On" can be considered a big ship tease for Fluttershy and Discord. Consider the fact that Fluttershy became his first friend EVER (and let's not forget how touched he was when she made her declaration) and losing her friendship, made Discord TRULY reform.
  • During the Photo Montage in "A Canterlot Wedding Part 2", Rainbow Dash is seen with Soarin' (one of the Wonderbolts), Rarity with Fancy Pants, and Spike dancing alongside Sweetie Belle. A love song is playing when this happens.
  • In "Rainbow Falls", there are a few moments that look like Fluttershy is flirting with Bulk Biceps of all ponies.
    • The episode was also heavily Soarin/Rainbow Dash with them having a heartfelt conversation and Rainbow Dash defending his position on the Cloudsdale team.
  • In "Pinkie Pride" shows Colt Cheese Sandwich was a shy colt until he attended one of filly Pinkie Pie's parties and kept one of her rubber chickens as a memento. Almost sounds like a Love at First Sight scenario.
  • "Hearts and Hooves Day" is essentially an extended Ship Tease between Big Macintosh and Cheerilee. The two of them spend most of the episode under the effects of a Love Potion, but when they come out of, it's left thoroughly ambiguous whether there are real romantic feelings between them or whether they were just trolling the CMC. The two are seen walking together in a later episode, and in "Filli Vanilli", Cheerilee swoons at Big Mac's singing (though it isn't actually Big Mac singing; he is just lip synching). One of the Equestria Girls prequel shorts also has them together at a carnival.
  • In Twilights Kingdom Part 1, a few of Fluttershy and Discord's moments show them being very close, plus the passing mention of the two having a get-together for tea. When confronting Tirek, Discord tells him he's only capturing him for Fluttershy's sake. He also has a photo of him and Fluttershy together.
  • In Twilight's Kingdom Part 2: If you look closely at the captured Mane 5 after Discord is drained, you can see Spike holding Rarity. There still seems to be some Discord/Fluttershy tease - Fluttershy flies over to hug him the minute he arrives, and is heartbrokenly crying when Discord betrays them, because she believed that he really did change for the better. Later on, after Tirek drains Discord of his powers and traps him in a bubble, Discord softly apologizes to her, and she forgives him. Discord also appreciates Fluttershy for teaching him the value of friendship. Near the end, Discord gives Celestia a bouquet of flowers and winks at her.
  • Since My Little Pony: Equestria Girls, Twilight Sparkle and Flash Sentry. Even though Flash Sentry has made a couple appearances so far.
  • In My Little Pony: Equestria Girls – Rainbow Rocks, there's a brief shot of Lyra and Bon Bon pressing up against each other while playing a piano duet and sharing a romantic look. Would normally just fall under Ho Yay, but given the pair's status as possibly the most popular Fan-Preferred Couple and it's hard to believe it wasn't intentional.
    • The kitchen scene between Sunset and Twilight is also...very heavy on the ship fuel, too much so to have been unintentional.
  • In Make New Friends but Keep Discord, Discord gets so jealous over Fluttershy having a new friend, to the point of nearly sending Tree Hugger to another dimension. He even gets excited when he sees her at the gala and even tells Tree Hugger: "We LIKE each other. That was the point." There is also a little bit of Discord/Celestia, especially when she is the only one to laugh at his attempts at joking as well as admitting she invited Discord to liven up the party, even going so far to declare that it has been the best gala in YEARS.
  • Lyra and Bon Bon were intentionally paired up since the Lower-Deck Episode "Slice of Life", where they refer to each other as "best friends" over and over while being very touchy-feely and gazing into each other's eyes with half-lidded expressions. When Bon Bon reveals a secret and Lyra's angry that she wasn't told, the argument is played like a marital one, with a big enough dose of Does This Remind You of Anything? that even the kids probably see it. Afterward, they're back to being minor characters, but Bon Bon was once seen putting a flower in Lyra's hair, and when the entire town was mindlinked by Princess Luna to help battle an Eldritch Abomination that eats dreams and threatens to enter the waking world, Reality Warper powers intact (yes, it's that kind of show) Lyra and Bon Bon end up fused CatDog style at one point. When they notice, they react with delighted smiles and hugging. Further fuel arrives at the beginning of the Rainbow Roadtrip special, which opens with a shot of the two of them walking together as a kaleidoscope of butterflies form a heart. It all culminated into a actual marriage proposal in "The Big Mac Question", with Lyra presenting a ring to Bon Bon, who reveals to have planned a proposal of her own.
  • Between Big Mac and Marble Pie, in Hearthbreakers. The two spend most of their interactions either shyly looking away from each other or just meeting each other's eyes, often accompanied by blushing. And then there's their little "conversation''. Of course, Pinkie didn't exactly do much to discourage shipping.
  • The Crystalling Part 2 showed a few moments between Starlight Glimmer and Sunburst.
  • In Stranger Than Fan Fiction, Rainbow Dash meets a fellow Daring Do fan named Quibble Pants. And, when they weren't arguing over the quality of the books, they bonded very quickly, frolicking through the convention, and making up at the end of the episode.
  • Discord and Fluttershy's relationship hits an apex in "Discordant Harmony", when Discord invites Fluttershy to his house and bends over backwards to make his place palatable to Fluttershy's normality, nearly erasing himself out of existence by de-chaos-ing his realm, demonstrating how seriously he takes his friendship with Fluttershy.
  • Some on-screen chemistry "sparks" might appear to be happening between Muffins and Dr. Hooves in "Slice of Life":
Dr. Hooves [as the flameless firework flowers ignite]: Of course! They need love to ignite! How could I have missed it?
  • In "She's All Yak", we get a bit of teasing between Sandbar and Yona. Sandbar blushes when asking Yona to go with him to the Amity Ball, and the two blush around each other a lot over the course of the episode. Not to mention that the entire premise centers around Yona trying to impress Sandbar.

Other

  • At the 2015 San Diego Comic Con panel, Ashleigh Ball and Andrea Libman did a brief improv session as their various characters, ending as Lyra and Bon Bon talking about how important their "friendship" was. Also Bon Bon was apparently upset at Lyra constantly staring at Applejack...
