L'Allieva, (literally The Pupil, official english title The Student) is a Procedural Romantic Dramedy Italian TV series, based on the book series of the same name by author Alessia Gazzola, centering on young forensic medical student Alice Allevi.

Alice Allevi is a fifth-year med student who has come to a shocking conclusion: she can't go on and become a doctor as she is unable to stand other people's suffering, and thus starts wondering what to do.

Paradoxically, the solution comes to her right after the brutal murder of her grandmother's live-in russian help, as she starts seriously considering the idea of going into forensic medicine while following the development of the case.

But with her propensity for goofing up, that idea seems less of a shoo-in and more of an uphill climb...

This series contains recurring examples of:

  • Adaptational Attractiveness: Lara is described in the books as so unkempt she's pretty hard to look at, with Claudio and Alice agreeing that her appearance is holding her brilliance back. In the series her attire is the exact opposite.
  • Alliterative Name: The protagonist, Alice Allevi, and her superior, Claudio Conforti.
  • Always Someone Better: Ambra Negri Della Valle is this for Alice.
  • Betty and Veronica: Arthur and Claudio in that order. She ends up choosing Claudio.
  • Cute Clumsy Girl: Alice, who is rather awkward and clumsy, but definitely endearing and a Nice Girl.
  • Deadpan Snarker: Claudio is easily the most sarcastic individual in the series, with a dry sense of humor.
  • Idiosyncratic Episode Naming: Every episode that is titled after a book in the series is the adaptation of said book.
  • Imagine Spot: Once an Episode Alice briefly imagines the episode's victim alive and happy after the case is solved.
  • In-Series Nickname: The specialists call the main boss Il Supremo (The Supreme) and the very stern teacher "la Wally". The lone male specialist is called Paolone because of his size. Alice also tends to call Claudio CC when talking to her friends.
  • Love Triangle: One develops in season 1, between Alice, her superior Claudio and her on-and-off boyfriend Arthur Malcomess, who's the son of the Forensic Department's Big Boss, Professor Malcomess.
  • Mistaken for Gay: Marco, Alice's brother, by many, including Alice herself. They're wrong.
  • Nice Girl: Alice is a sweet, kind-hearted and compassionate individual, who can't help deeply empathizing with the cases that involve her.
  • No Ending: Season 1 ends with Alice about to choose between Arthur and Claudio.
  • Oh, Crap!: Alice most of the time, what with her luck and propensity for goofs; particular examples are when she breaks an important object (a thousands-year-old skull) in the opening scene of the pilot and when she finds out her boyfriend Arthur is the son of her Big Boss.
  • Pilot Movie: The first episode of the series, Sindrome Da Cuore In Sospeso (Heart-In-Waiting Syndrome), based on the second book of the series.
  • Real Song Theme Tune: 'A Week', from The Shalalalas.
  • Slap-Slap-Kiss: Alice and Claudio in most of their interactions.
  • The Show of the Books
  • This Loser Is You: Mostly how Alice sees herself.
