    Correct Use
  1. Characters.Epic Seven Cidonia: Violet's animation in his third skill has him place the sword in front of his face.
  2. Characters.Fire Emblem Awakening The Lords: At the end of the third chapter of the Future Past DLC. The CG has her covering her right eye with the blade of Falchion before she initiates the Awakening ritual to slay Grima.
  3. Characters.Hollow Knight Protagonists: In the official poster for the Hidden Dreams content pack, the Knight shown to be holding the Dream Nail in front of its face.
  4. Characters.RWBY Weiss Schnee: She begins her summoning ritual by holding her sword vertically in front of her face so that she stares right through the sword as she concentrates.
  5. Prom Night (1980): The theatrical poster shows the killer looking past a mirror shard he's holding, with a dead woman reflected in it.
  6. GranblueFantasy.Tropes R To Z: All Lumiel Knights hold their blades upright between their face during their "preparing a skill/Charge Attack" pose (best seen here). Only the males do it with their eyes open, playing this trope straight.
  7. RWBY.Tropes S To T: One example is in the ZCE folder
    • A quick shot of Qrow during his fight with Winter in "It's Brawl in the Family" shows him holding his weapon in greatsword form between his eyes as Winter charges at him.
    • When Ruby had to pick up a sword the one time her usual weapon was unavailable she did the same thing right down to an almost identical shot. Which makes sense because Qrow is the one who taught her how to fight, even if Ruby opted not to give her weapon a sword mode. Talking about the above example aside, this is good.
  8. The Resistance: The Assassin card art has the blade in between the Assassin's bright red eyes.
  9. Thundercats2011.Tropes T To Z: Third Eye: When using the Sword of Omens' "Sight Beyond Sight", Lion-O stares through the sword positioning the hilt so the Eye of Thundera rests against his forehead, and a glowing pupil manifests. 'Somehow this describes the trope better than every other example on a completely different trope''.

    ZCE
  1. Characters.Edens Zero Others: Urochla's statue is posed this way.
  2. Characters.Final Fantasy VIII: The stance he briefly adopts before executing a Finisher.
  3. Characters.Final Fantasy VII Remake Main Characters: Cloud stares through his sword during his Refocus stance.
  4. Characters.Genshin Impact The Knights Of Favonius: Jean has this pose whenever she uses Dandelion Breeze. Her Wish artwork when you obtain her from Wishes also has her using this pose.
  5. Characters.Star Wars Count Dooku: He salutes Master Yoda this way before they duel.
  6. Characters.Tales Of Xillia: In Xillia 2's opening, she does this, before facing off with Exodus terrorists alongside Jude. She does it again during the main story when vowing to Elle that Fractured Milla's sacrifice was not in vain.
  7. Characters. The Rose Of Versailles: At least three times.
  8. De Cape et de Crocs How the pirates salute Eusebe's rock being cast into space.
  9. The Acts of Caine: The cover of Caine Black Knife.
  10. The Rose of Versailles: Done at least three times by Oscar.
  11. Versailles: Kamijo in the "Aristocrat's Symphony" video.
    1. RWBY.Tropes S To T: Two examples are in the Correct Use folder
    • Weiss does this several times with Myrtenaster throughout Volume 4, and in the intro.
  12. TheNostalgiaCritic.Tropes O To S: Critic in this picture, to contrast him with Doug's innocent baby face]].
  13. Thundercats2011.Tropes P To S: The method by which Lion-O receives his vision from the Sword of Omens.
  14. The Matrix: Path of Neo: After the winter multi-enemy level.
  15. Man at Arms: Another obligatory pose, with the Sword of Omens' hilt.

    Trope as Verb
  1. Crystal Ball: In ThunderCats (2011) the Sword of Omens is a hybrid of this and a Magic Mirror. Staring Through The Sword prompts the spherical cabochon Eye of Thundera in its hilt to send a vision visible in the Blade Reflection. Also on Thundercats2011.Tropes C To E
  2. Stab the Sky: In modern fencing, the salute has three steps, the first one is Staring Through The Sword, the second one is Stab The Sky. The third is Swipe Your Blade Off, but without the blood.
  3. Swipe Your Blade Off: A variant of this with no blood finishes off the modern fencing salute: Staring Through The Sword, Stab the Sky and Swipe Your Blade Off.
  4. MythologyGag.Granblue Fantasy Versus: As Player 1, Lancelot does a one-handed Staring Through The Sword pose in his intro, similar to his Wind version's initial artwork. It's just that he closes his eyes this time. This is quickly followed with an "armfold" pose with his swords, similar to the artwork of his "Royal Cuirass Violet" skin.
