Kahn's Greatest Mistake is a King of the Hill fanfiction made by M.E.Pea.

Connie is older and now married to Chane Wassonasong. She hopes that this will please her dad, but at the same time, she can't help but feel like a great disappointment.

This fanfiction contains examples of:

  • Awful Wedded Life: While Chane isn't overtly abusive, he is still a negligent husband who prevents Connie from building her own life and career.

  • Deconstruction Fic: Kahn's Greatest Mistake is a whole deconstruction of the plot elements of the original show.
    • In the show Connie Souphanousinphone despite her parents' pressure for her to succeed in her school work and extra activities, was an ordinary teenage girl with a positive relationship with her parents. Kahn and Minh despised their flaws and were shown to love her. In this story, we see the effects of Kahn and Minh's parenting on Connie and how their excessively demanding behavior has wreaked havoc on her self-esteem. And the story Connie is desperate to get her parent's approval to the point where she is willing to date and marry Chane Wassonasong, someone she dislikes because her parents approve of him. It was implied Connie became isolated from her peers in high school and drifted apart from her friends because of her bad self-esteem caused by the pressure her parents put her under. After spending the entire story being miserable with her marriage and life, a talk with her friend Bobby made Connie realize she can't live up to her parent's expectations. Connie divorced Chane, moved in with Bobby with her daughter, and finally found happiness.
    • In the show, despite Hank and Bobby loving each other, they have trouble connecting because of their differences. While Hank loves his son, he has difficulty accepting his differences and wanting him to be more like himself. The story takes that flaw to its logical conclusion. In this story, Bobby becomes a successful comedian like he always wanted to as an adult, and it implies that Hank, who is never supportive of that dream, is unhappy with Bobby's career choice. It's implied Bobby does not keep in contact with his parents anymore. Chapter 4 shows Hank and Peggy arguing because Hank refuses to visit his son Bobby because he lives in Los Angeles, California, and he does not want to go there. In the final chapter, Bobby acknowledges that while he and his father had good moments, he is not as close to his parents as he once was, and after spending his whole life disappointing his parents, he's done living his life for them.
    • This story shows the tragic consequences that could happen between the Dale, Nancy, and John Redcorn love triangle and how the fallout from it being revealed would affect Joseph Gribble. It is deeply implied that when Dale finally learns the truth, he is understandably outraged; while it implied that he and Nancy are still married, their relationship remained strained, and their marriage was never the same with Dale's health problems and Nancy's drinking. Learning the truth hurt Joseph, he started lashing out and getting into trouble, his friendship with Bobby and Connie ended, and while he eventually went to college, he dropped off. He has since Cut off contact with everyone he once knew, including his parents, and refuses to visit Dale even though he's sick, something that Bobby considers petty because Dale was a good father to him. Chapter 3 shows that it's more complicated than that; meeting Connie, Joseph revealed that he was angry that everyone knew but him, and he felt that Dale mistreated Nancy and was mad that she still stayed with him. Joseph moved out in the hope of making a career as a football player in college, but then he met Kate from his childhood in a bar, they got drunk and slept together, and Kate ended up pregnant. At first nervous, Joseph came around to be a father, but things came crashing down when Joseph revealed that his father was John Redcorn, horrified, she told Joseph that John Redcorn was also her father; they had an abortion, broke up, and cut contact. Joseph's last appearance in the story shows him as an angry drunk, implying he's homeless.
  • Education Mama: Kahn and Minh get made at Connie just because she didn't get into Harvard, when she already got into a lot of good schools.
  • My Beloved Smother: Minh grills Connie over her decision to divorce Chane, whining about how it makes her look to Chane's parents.
  • Pet the Dog: Chane does love his daughter Kim. This doesn't change that he is a terrible husband and his life with Connie is unfulfilling for her.
