Channel One

    Alex Winston
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/download_not_for_broadcast_offer_3vvnw_2_2.jpg
  • Ambiguous Gender: Alex uses gender-neutral pronouns, so it's unknown if Alex is male, female, or non-binary.
  • Better Living Through Evil: While siding with Advance has Alex supporting a nuclear oppressive government, this can make supporting their family much easier. Also worth noting that not giving Chris your passport can save their life, and Advance warns you about Suzie before they drop the nukes.
  • Featureless Protagonist: The game goes out of its way to hide any physical details of Alex, aside from what might be them on the cover art as seen in their image.
  • Sole Survivor: It's entirely possible for Alex's entire family to die. This comes as a result of giving Chris your passport, giving Suzie money for her vacation, having Charlie join Disrupt and not speeding to the meeting, transitioning your mother willingly or due to lack of money, and then finally not letting Sam inside if Charlie and Suzie are dead, leading them to die in a car wreck.
  • Villain Protagonist: A tamer example when it comes to other villain protagonists in video games as the player has a very passive role, but it's still possible for Alex to range from being a Jerkass to a total asshole by ruining people's lives through negative headlines, siding with a oppressive government or a Not-So-Well-Intentioned Extremist rebel group to the very end, pissing both of them off, letting Jeremy kill himself or get shot to death on live television, assisst in a terrorist attack during Peter Clement's memorial, and siding with Alan James when he's holding the studio hostage with a suicide bomb vest.

    Dave
  • He Knows About Timed Hits: Dave explains the mechanics to Alex in the first broadcast by mentioning the keyboard or gamepad, depending on what the player is using.
  • Mission Control: Acts as this for Alex for the Election and the Fallout before being replaced by Boseman.
  • Screw This, I'm Outta Here: The justification for Alex taking his job is that Dave is fleeing the country sometime after Advance won the election.

    Robert Boseman
  • Benevolent Boss: Zig-zagged. He has quite the temper and makes his employees work on weekends, but he genuinely cares about his employees and cares about getting the news out. He also says he will stand by Alex if they play the tape exposing Advance if Jeremy and Alan are dead, saying they will “face the music together.”
  • Killed Mid-Sentence: Gets assassinated by Disrupt in the last segment of the Finale if Jeremy is dead but Alan is alive.
"Okay, before we suffer through the last- hmm? What's that? There seems to be a bit kerfuffle in the corridor, one moment-" Communication stops abruptly.
  • Mission Control: Replaces Dave as this from the Tempest onwards with the exception of the Lockdown.

National Nightly News

    Jeremy Donaldson

"Have a peaceful night."
  • Back for the Finale: Shows up for the final segment of the Finale if he's still alive.
  • Bungled Suicide: His suicide if you play the Disrupt tape in the Heatwave can be avoided if you play the last advert in time, and he will be arrested instead.
  • Driven to Suicide: If you play the Disrupt advert in the Heatwave, he will try to shoot himself at the end of the last segment. Can be subverted if you play the last advert before he pulls the trigger.
  • Jerk with a Heart of Gold: He's occasionally rude, has little patience for his guests, and can be somewhat snarky, but he wants to get the news to the people and has his heart in the right place. Despite the hostage situation, it's due to the pressure of Advance slowly becoming more oppressive and the stress of the heatwave.
  • Lack of Empathy: Played for Laughs in the Lockdown, as he jokes and is apathetic towards Patrick being attacked by multiple Mrs. Snugglehugs. Justified and subverted as this is in Alex's coma.
  • Older Than They Look: Despite his high-pitched voice and young appearance, he is in his 40s. He ages to 47 if he appears in the Finale, with only a stubble on his chin, keeping the rest of his youthfulness.
  • Put on a Bus: If you have Jeremy live during the Heatwave, he is gone for the future broadcasts up until the Finale, where he returns for the final segment.

     Alan James (UNMARKED SPOILERS
  • Big Bad Ensemble: Potentially with Julia.
  • Villainous Breakdown: Two potentially.
    • If Alex refuses to assist Alan during the Uprising, Disrupt ends up having their asses handed to them, with the rocket launcher being delayed as fighter jets swoop in being the final nail in the coffin, with one of the fighter jets blows up a building where Alan is located.
"Oh God. They're gonna kill us all! They're gonna-"
    • If Alex plays the tape in the final segment if Jeremy is dead, as Alan is surrounded, he lifts his thumb from the trigger to his bomb vest... and it doesn't blow up, leading to him panicking before he gets shot down.

  • Crazy Homeless People: If Neil's Deals Limited goes bankrupt, Neil ends up homeless and digging through bins for supplies and food, on top of having numerous alimony bills.
