Live-Action TV

  • The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air: In "Will's Misery", Will does the "Wheh?" sound when his new girlfriend ties him to a chair and it dawns on him that his "date" is actually a kidnapping.
  • Last Man Standing (2011): being another Tim Allen sitcom, multiple episodes make reference to the series. "Dual Time" is even an outright crossover featuring an older Tim, but here are some references.
    • Several episodes use a Freeze-Frame Bonus of the Binford logo being on Mike's toolbox.
    • "Attractive Architect": Richard Karn guest stars as a business associate and says he remembers Mike having three boys.
    • "Helen Potts": Patricia Richardson guest stars as a neighbor whose ex-husband was obsessed with tools and prone to D.I.Y. Disaster-type failures. Jonathan Taylor Thomas makes a surprise cameo as Helen's son, and Mike admits the guy seems vaguely familiar. Chuck also makes like Wilson by talking to Mike from behind a fence that obscures most of his face.

Web Original

  • The Angry Video Game Nerd:
    • In his review of Fester's Quest, the Nerd compares the concept of Uncle Fester fighting aliens to the concept of Tim Allen fighting dinosaurs, and shows a screenshot from Home Improvement: Power Tool Pursuit!.
    • In Part 2 of his "Wish List" video, the Nerd reviewed Home Improvement: Power Tool Pursuit.
  • Console Wars: In the Batman Forever episode, Pat points out that the SNES version of the Licensed Game based on the titular film doesn't have the voice clips that the Sega Genesis version does, but Dan argues that the sound quality of the voice clips on the Genesis version is terrible. Pat then says it's better than what the SNES version originally had planned, and shows Dan fictional voice clips that were cut from the SNES version on the blu-ray of the titular film that Dan ordered, where the enemies say that weird Tim Allen noise, along with "Did I do that?" and "You got it, Dude!".
  • The Irate Gamer: I.G. has reviewed the Home Improvement video game, and he has a talk with Wilson, who is behind a fence as usual. He would become a recurring character, renamed "Wilkins" to differentiate him from Tim's neighbor.
  • The JonTron review of Christmas with the Kranks has a few Home Improvement references. The last scene is Jon going out into Times Square man-on-the-street style and asking people if they know any Tim Allen noises. They don't. (He did get an aspiring preacher on the mic though, but he didn't know any Tim Allen noises either.)
  • Third Rate Gamer has reviewed Home Improvement: Power Tool Pursuit! as a not-so-Affectionate Parody of Irate Gamer's review of the same game.

Western Animation

  • The Critic: "A Pig Boy and His Dog" has a few references, as the show initially aired in the preceding timeslot. Franklin twice goes to the backyard to get advice from Wilson, unaware that it's just a scarecrow and any noises he's hearing are from nearby animals (first a frog and then an owl). At the end of the episode, Jay says goodnight to the audience, especially to those just tuning in to watch Home Improvement.
  • Family Guy: In "Mind Over Murder", Peter builds his own bar in his basement and says that he's just like Tim Allen, in that he builds stuff and has a criminal record, referring to Allen's 1978 conviction for drug trafficking. Afterward, a Home Improvement scene transition occurs in which Allen snorts up the preceding scene like cocaine.
  • The Simpsons:
    • In "Deep Space Homer", some people from NASA watch what's popular on TV and they turn to an episode of Home Improvement where Tim accidentally kills Wilson by running over him with his riding mower.
    • In "Mom and Pop Art", Homer watches a Tool Time-esque video hosted by a bearded man resembling Al.
    • In "Behind the Laughter", the family lists the names of various (fictional) dumb sitcoms they like to watch before mentioning Home Improvement among them.
