Recap / Yu Gi Oh VRAINS Ep 85 True Tears

Go To

Playmaker and his allies head to Mirror LINK VRAINS to confront Lightning. On the other hand, Haru blocks Blue Maiden's path and begins a Duel against her.

This episode contains the following tropes:

  • Bad Boss: While Lightning claims it does not matter if Haru wins or loses against Blue Maiden, Haru quickly realizes that Lightning expects him to lose. That, and he fails to inform Haru that he'll be erased if he loses within Mirror LINK VRAINS.
  • Cassandra Truth: Bohman warns Haru that the latter will be erased should he lose within Mirror LINK VRAINS. Haru, however, casually brushes him off and storms off to confront Blue Maiden by his lonesome.
  • A Death in the Limelight: This is the first episode to focus on Haru. It's also the episode where he dies.
  • Delaying Action: Multiple BitBoots are summoned to hold back Playmaker's party and prevent them from locating Bohman's whereabouts. Lightning also sends Haru to deal with Blue Maiden and keep her at bay, regardless of whether he wins or loses.
  • Deliberate Injury Gambit: Blue Maiden takes advantage of the damage she took from "Coolant Hydradrive" to activate her Skill, Shape of Sea, and bring back a Monster from her GY with ATK equal to or less than the amount of damage she took from the battle.
  • Dude, Where's My Respect?: Haru clearly doesn't like Blue Maiden and Aqua saying he uses the same deck as Bohman, irritably revealing that he taught Bohman how to duel and uses a different play style with the Hydradrive.
  • Even Evil Has Loved Ones: Bohman is shown to genuinely love his "brother", not caring that Lightning only made them siblings for the purpose of emotionally stabilizing him. Haru realizes the same, but only as he's being erased.
  • Exact Words: "Twin Hydradrive Knight" only negates the effects of monsters on the field, meaning Blue Maiden can still use their hand and graveyard effects.
  • Manly Tears: When Bohman finds out that Haru was erased after the latter lost to Blue Maiden, he cries and vows to never forget his little brother.
  • No-Sell: Haru summons "Twin Hydradrive Knight" using Water and Wind attributes, preventing Blue Maiden's "Marincess" monsters from activating their effects.
  • Sorry That I'm Dying: Haru apologizes to Bohman and fully acknowledges him as his brother before he is completely erased from existence.
  • Too Dumb to Live: Haru declines to heed Bohman's warnings about losers getting erased from Mirror LINK VRAINS, and ultimately pays with his existence for confronting and losing to Blue Maiden by his lonesome.
  • We Hardly Knew Ye: This is the only time Haru gets any major focus before he's completely offed by Blue Maiden.
  • What Is This Feeling?: Haru briefly thinks of Bohman during his duel with Blue Maiden, much to his own confusion. It's only as he's being erased that he realizes it's because he actually cares about Bohman.
