Recap / Yu Gi Oh VRAINS Ep 79 Speed Of Light Lightning

Go To

Wary about Revolver and Blood Shepherd teaming up, Lightning decides to challenge Blood Shepherd to a Duel. Blood Shepherd uses some new Drone tactics to overwhelm Lightning!

This episode contains the following tropes:

  • Beam Me Up, Scotty!: invoked In-universe. While the four verses of The Divine Comedy recited by Lightning are all actually in the Commedia, there are actually eight more verses between the third and the fourth (following Dante's extreme Rule of Three).
  • Crazy-Prepared: Revolver had already erased every single moment of his Duel with Blood Shepherd before Lightning could witness the whole thing unfold. Justified, as Revolver has a trick up his sleeve (i.e. "Imperial Order") specifically to counter the use of "Judgment Arrows", which he doesn't want Bohman's faction to know of.
  • Pet the Dog: Kengo visits his father's grave and lays a bouquet of flowers despite his resentment towards him for abandoning him and his mother. Emma assumes Kengo has forgiven their father, but he claims that he visited to break up with him.
  • Saying Too Much: Kusanagi was about to refer to Playmaker as Yusaku, but quickly stops himself when he recalls that Blue Maiden and Ghost Girl are accompanying both Playmaker and Soulburner, and thus would blow Playmaker's cover had his civilian name been completely spoken out.
  • Shout-Out: Lightning borrows a couple of quotes from The Divine Comedy when inviting Blood Shepherd to his palace.
"Through me you pass into the sparkle of woe. Through me you pass into anguishing brilliance. Through me among the light lost for aye. All hope abandon ye who enter here."
  • This Is Unforgivable!: Windy's animosity towards humanity gets worse as he recalls the moment he was close to getting terminated by the Knights of Hanoi upon his defeat at Revolver's hands.
  • Wicked Cultured: Lightning quotes The Divine Comedy when he invites Blood Shepherd to his palace.
