- Family-Friendly Firearms: This episode marks the first appearance of the invisible guns. They are as threatening as it sounds and everyone treats it as such.
- Magic Versus Science: Kaiba states that his goal is to be the victorious science to Yugi's magic.
- No One Could Survive That!: Hilariously averted; Kaiba jumps out a nearby window when two of Pegasus' guards confront him. Despite Kaiba audibly declaring that he survived, the guards insist that he died.Kaiba: You guys are idiots!
Guard: At least we're not dead, like you. - No Social Skills: The closest that Mako can get to asking someone to stay with him is lugging a harpoon at them. Yugi calls him out on it.Mako: I didn't want you to leave, and I wasn't sure how else to get your attention.Yugi: Just ask! Just say "Hey, Yugi, could you stay a little longer?" Don't lob a frickin' harpoon at me!
- Ooh, Me Accent's Slipping: Although LittleKuriboh is usually spot on with the various American Accents most of the cast possess, there is a very obvious slip-up in this episode where Yugi becomes temporarily British. It's so obvious that it gets its own Call-Back in a later episode.
- Paper-Thin Disguise: Mokaba makes a valiant attempt at hiding his identity from Yugi and the gang using a ski hat and a bandana that only half covers his face. No one is fooled.
- Toon Physics: Of a sort; Mokuba claims to be glad that he's a cartoon after surviving a rather lengthy fall.
- Walking Shirtless Scene: Mako, which Tea is highly appreciative of.
- What Happened to the Mouse?: That kid in the pink shirt never does get his star chips returned to him, does he?
